This question is a hot topic, but one that needs an answer. I saw this question raised on another blog, and thought I might discuss it, the pros and cons on my blog.
Should parents train (indoctrinate) their children? My answer is a resunding YES!
I am a follower of Jesus Christ, and I take His word to be absolute truth, absolutely! I think for someone who does not follow Christ, this answer does not mean as much, and may not matter. But if you call yourself a Christian, this matter is crucial for the discipleship and eternal well-being of your kids.
So the issue comes down to whether or not you truly believe the Bible is God's truth. If you do, God's word tells us that He commands parents to teach their children of His ways (Dt. 6:4-9). If you follow Christ as Lord, you must belive and obey that command. To not teach your children the truths of God and His word, is to let them be taught by someone in the (spiritual) enemy's camp. So Christian parent (I'm primarily talking to you), are you going to let your children be taught be a humanistic/atheistic society that teaches them we evolved from animals, and that there is no basis for morality?
If you do not teach your children, or do not raise them in the ways of God, you are giving them to the enemy camp. Most of you let them be discipled by the humanist secular schools anyway, and Bible study, teaching has no place in your home life. Why should your children follow or believe that faith? It goes against everything they feel. Their sinful nature disposes them to the ways of the world, and when they see it on TV, movies and internet, and there is no training at home, no example, guess whose example they are going to follow!
