Your Sons Like Poplars...

The Yhwh gave this to me a couple of weeks ago, and I just haven't had time to write about it yet, but this was such an encouragement and confirmation about what Yhwh is doing in these last days, and in our lives.

I was reading in Isaiah 45, and had gone back the enxt day, to read and study and chew on the text, but I wanted to start a chapter previous, to get more of the context and appreciate what the text was saying.  When I started reading in chapter 44, it said this:

 NAU Isaiah 44:1 "But now listen, O Jacob, My servant, And Israel, whom I have chosen:  2 Thus says the LORD who made you And formed you from the womb, who will help you, 'Do not fear, O Jacob My servant; And you Jeshurun whom I have chosen.  3 'For I will pour out water on the thirsty land And streams on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring And My blessing on your descendants;  4 And they will spring up among the grass Like poplars by streams of water.'  5 "This one will say, 'I am the LORD'S'; And that one will call on the name of Jacob; And another will write on his hand, 'Belonging to the LORD,' And will name Israel's name with honor. 

The latter half of Isaiah is written all about the restoration of Israel in the last days.  Yhwh always tells Jacob/Israel now to be afraid, and that He is for them.  

3 'For I will pour out water on the thirsty land And streams on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring And My blessing on your descendants;

In verse three, He says that He will "pour out water on thirsty land, and streams on dry ground."  The Word in Scripture is likened to Water, and dry, thirsty ground to people or lands where there is no hearing of the Word of the Yhwh.  As I was reading through this verse, it brought to mind imagery, both of Yhwh literally fulfilling this in the land of Israel, where there are already streams of living water flowing in previously dry stream beds.  But then we also have the spiritual component, because the phrase is complemented in the second stanza by saying He would pour pout His Spirit on your descendants.  The apostle Peter stated that this is what was happening on Pentecost, after the ascension of the resurrected Messiah, Yeshua ben Josef. 

4 And they will spring up among the grass Like poplars by streams of water.' 

Then I received another insight as I continued to read.  The imagery of trees planted by streams of water from Psalm 1.  "Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, or stand in the way of sinners, or sit in the seat of scoffers, but his delight is in the Torah  of Yhwh, and on His Torah He will meditate, day and night.  And he shall be like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season, and whose leaf never withers, in whatever he does, he prospers" (Ps. 1:1-3).

And so I picture all this dry, cracked waste land which we picture of ancient Egypt, and I think of John hte Baptist at the Jordan, with the scribes and the Pharisees looking on.  And he says to them, "God can raise up children from these stones!"  And I wonder if he is not drawing from this prophecy in Isaiah 44.

 4 And they will spring up among the grass Like poplars by streams of water.'  5 "This one will say, 'I am the LORD'S'; And that one will call on the name of Jacob; And another will write on his hand, 'Belonging to the LORD,' And will name Israel's name with honor. 

And so you have a picture of this vast waste land, dry and cracked, with sparse shoots of grass here and there, and all of a sudden, these Poplar trees begin to shoot up, not all together, but spaced apart, in random places... and they begin to grow large in height and strong, like trees planted by streams of water.  And the water is the Word, the Torah (which let's not forgot, was the only Word of God during the time of Yeshua and the apostles).  

So this passage is telling us that in the last days, in land stricken by a famine of the Word of the Yhwh, that He would pour out His Spirit on sons and daughters, and cause them to grow up like Poplars planted by streams of water, that is, full of strength and knowledge and understanding of the Word, the Torah... and that they would begin again to identify with Israel, and proclaiming to belong to the God of Israel.

And that has been me and my wife's experience with our beliefs and convictions, as we have studied about the return of the Messiah in the last days, and of his coming for His people.  And Abba has revealed these truths to us.  As He says in Ps. 25:14, "The secret (or counsel) of the Yhwh is for those who fear Him, and to them He will make known His covenant."

Was Jesus Forsaken? A Study on Psalm 22

The common view of Christians, at least in America is that when Jesus was on the cross, God the Father turned His back on the Son, when the sins of the world were applied to Him, and that is why the whole world grew dark.  Well the LORD showed me something that will challenge that conventional belief.

So when Jesus was hanging upon the cross, he cried out, "My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me? (Ps. 22:1)"  Most Chrisitans assume that the Father turned His back on Jesus because He could not bear to look upon all the sins of the world being laid upon His only begotten Son.  It's sweet sentiment, but is it Biblical?  Where do we see in the scriptures that the Father turned away from the Son, and stopping His gaze from being upon Him?  We don't.  It's not in there!

What Jesus was doing when He cried out the first verse of Psalm 22, is that as a good Rabbi, He was calling the attention of His students, His disciples, to Psalm 22, which the Jews of that era knew was a Messianic Psalter.  If we continue to go through this Psalm, not only does it foretell precisely what happened to Jesus as He was crucified, with the nails through His hands and feet (Ps. 22:16), to His physical appearance (v. 17), the centurions gambling for his clothes, the Psalm goes on to tell us more.

Verse 22 the Psalm shifts to the subject person of the Psalm moving to praise God, and tell of His great name.  But verse 24 tells us: "For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from him; But when he cried to Him for help, He heard."

As I was reading this Psalm, thinking that the Psalm is a prophecy about Jesus, I identified "the afflicted" with Jesus.  He is the subject of this Psalm, and to shift the meaning from the Messiah, to the world, or  to the poor, is to wrongfully interpret the meaning of the Psalm.

But verse 24 tells us that God "has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, nor has He hidden His face from him"!  We always say "When Jesus was on the cross, God turned His back on Him."  But that's not in there!  That's not Biblical!  Psalm 22:24 says that God indeed DID NOT turn His back on Yeshua!

So why did Yeshua cry out, "My God My God, why have You forsaken Me?"  We know that when the disciples or others addressed Jesus, they referred to him as Rabbi, but sometimes we lose sight of the fact that this is indeed what and who Jesus of Nazareth is.  He is the Rabbi of all rabbis!  He IS the living Word of God, that became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14).  We also need to remember that the chapter and verse numerical arrangement is a historically recent thing, and did not exist in the time of Jesus and the Jewish Tanakh (their Bible).  So whenever a Rabbi wanted to tell others about a certain passage of scripture, he would call out the first verse of that section.

Rabbi Yeshua  was calling people to turn to Psalm 22, which was all about Him, and prophesied of the very event they had all just witnessed, from the times of King David, circa 3,000 B.C.  

So why did the skies grow dark while Jesus was on the cross?  What does the Bible have to say about dark clouds?  For what reason do they appear?  

2 Samuel 22:12   "And He made darkness canopies around Him, A mass of waters, thick clouds of the sky. 

and

Psalm 97:1-2  The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; Let the many islands be glad.  2 Clouds and thick darkness surround Him; Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. 

So why did the sky become Dark when Yeshua was upon the cross as a propitiation for our sins (Rom.3:25)?  From what scripture declares, that the LORD surrounds Himself with clouds and thick darkness, it seems that the Father was not far away, turning His back in grief and disgust at the sin, but He was RIGHT THERE, Enthroned on the first row, carefully and lovingly watching over His Son who willingly laid down His life (John 10:18).

Are Catholics Now Universalists? Fulfillment of the Great Apostasy!

It would indeed appear to be so, based on the Vicar's last pronouncement:  that non-believers would be forgiven by God if they followed their consciences.  It seems that adding to... and taking away from... the words of Holy Writ are being brought to a whole new level by the current pope.

Protestant Christians believe the written word of God is the only sure revelation given from God that believers can put their faith and belief in the content of the holy pages.  And John the Revelator gave this warning near the end of the final book of God's word:

Revelation 22:18-19   18 I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book;  19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book. 

But the most recent Pope, seems to waste little time rewriting holy writ with his papal majesterium!  In fact, this pronouncement, that atheists (those who deny belief in the one true God) will be forgiven in heaven, goes in flat contradiction to numerous scriptural teachings!

1)  Hebrews 9:11-14  But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation;  12 and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.  13 For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh,  14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 

    a.  This pronouncement by the Pope totally denigrates the holy, sinless blood Christ shed on the cross.  According to this passage, it is the blood of Christ, shed on the cross, that cleanses the conscience to make it holy and acceptable to God.  A human's conscience is stained by sin and sinful intentions.  An "atheist" by definition, rejects belief in God, and in the divine work of Jesus of Nazareth on the cross for the salvation of sinners.  So the Pope is saying that the whole purpose of Jesus living a life of 33 years of sinless life in complete obeidience to the Father's will, was for vain.  Now the pope has had a change of heart, is changing the thousands of years worth of revelation and conviction that men have given their lives over, and is letting all who reject Jesus and God's salvation into heaven anyway!

2)  It is given to man to die once, and after this to judgment.  Hebrews 9:27  

      a.   Don't worry about judgment, we'll let you in, just follow your (sinful) conscious!  

      b.  What else does God's word say in regard to unbelievers and their conscious towards God?

Romans 8:5-8   5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.  6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,  7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so,  8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 

3)  For God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever shall believe in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3:16

       a.  The Pope, with his flagrant announcement, has sought to turn a centuries old truth and creed of the Christian church, a verse that's given hope to millions through the ages, and turn it on its head!

      b.  The Pope reduced the written word of God to meaninglessness.  He has brought justification of sin for the wicked, and scorn and persecution to the faithful and those who hold to the word of God.

The LORD God predicted in His word, the Almighty [El Elyon, Yeshua], not a deceiving spirit masquerading as Mary, the Queen of Heaven, that their would be a great falling away in the last days.  We have seen in gradually coming on, as the Protestant mainline churches turn their backs on sacred commands and the voice of our Lord, through His word.  But I believe that we are now seeing it reach its fullness, as the head of the "Christian" church turns His back on God's word, and reverses the position of the Roman Catholic church, that began as the true Church, until it was institutionalized, and morphed into a geopolitical entity, giving the popes temporal power and property, wealth and riches.  But Jesus said, "My Kingdom is not of this world..." (John 18:36).  

2 Thessalonians 2:1-6  Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him,  2 that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.  3 Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,  4 who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.  5 Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things?  6 And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. 

Why did God allow the shooting in Conneticut?

Yesterday I was talking to a man who is descended from a long line of pastors, yet he is rejecting the faith not living the Christian life.  He asked me the question of how can an all powerful God allow for the massacre of all the innocent little children in Conneticut?

 

He is making a common human mistake. The Bible tells us that no human is innocent. We are all born with the guilt of sin, I know you know the scriptures (Rom 3:23; Ecc. 7:20; Ps. 51:5). Therefore, the only thing God owes to any human is eternity in hell! But the Bible teaches, that God so love the world, He gave His only begotten Son as the propitiation for our sins (Rom 3:25, 1 Jn. 4:10).

As for those of the age to differentiate between good and evil, the Bible is straight and clear. We are morally responsible to choose God's ways over our own and reject sin, but the Bible is also clear that in our sinful state, we cannot, and will not choose God. We choose sin over him (Rom 8:6-8).

So this begs the question, why doesn't God save everyone?  Aholy God must satisfy His justice against sinners.  He cannot and will not let evil be unpunished.

I think Paul also anticipates this question -

Romans 9:14-26 ¹⁴ What shall we say then? There is no injustice with God, is there? May it never be! ¹⁵ For He says to Moses, "I WILL HAVE MERCY ON WHOM I HAVE MERCY, AND I WILL HAVE COMPASSION ON WHOM I HAVE COMPASSION."

¹⁶ So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy. ¹⁷ For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "FOR THIS VERY PURPOSE I RAISED YOU UP, TO DEMONSTRATE MY POWER IN YOU, AND THAT MY NAME MIGHT BE PROCLAIMED THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE EARTH." ¹⁸ So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires.

¹⁹ You will say to me then, "Why does He still find fault? For who resists His will?" ²⁰ On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, "Why did you make me like this," will it? ²¹ Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use?
²² What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction? ²³ And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory, ²⁴ even us, whom He also called, not from among Jews only, but also from among Gentiles.
²⁵ As He says also in Hosea, "I WILL CALL THOSE WHO WERE NOT MY PEOPLE, 'MY PEOPLE,' AND HER WHO WAS NOT BELOVED, 'BELOVED.'" ²⁶ "AND IT SHALL BE THAT IN THE PLACE WHERE IT WAS SAID TO THEM, 'YOU ARE NOT MY PEOPLE,' THERE THEY SHALL BE CALLED SONS OF THE LIVING GOD."

I think that answers our question. What do you think?

Reformed and Baptist: the third wave - Reformation21 Blog

This is an excellent article on the Particular or Reformed Baptists and their arising in England in the 1630s... and how they saw themselves as the third wave of Reformers of the Church.  I am proud to be descended from this line of godly men in though and conviction... but of late I am wondering if they reformed the church enough?  Was not the early Church Jewish in origin, and they held to the feasts and ordinances of Judaism in the "New Covenant," recognizing that they were fulfilled in Messiah.

I am not prepared to, nor do I have the time to go into this in full detail, but you may notice this appearing more in my blog in the future, being driven to despair over the falling away of many in my demomination, and the theological compromise being promoted and taught by leadership, that ha Adonai has used in turning me to the faith of Messianic Judaism.  I can still rightly retain my convictions held as as a Particular or Reformed Baptist, but enjoy more fullness in my faith, and understand more of the mysteries and prophecies of the feasts and within the very life of Judaism.  And no, this is not trying to be justified under the Torah.  Its recognition that only Messiah could fulfill the Torah.  We know that no one is justified by observing the Torah, but through faith in Yeshua the Messiah (Gal 2:16).

The apostle Paul wrote that a partial hardening of the Jews had occurred until the fullness of the Gentiles could be brought in to the faith, and (he writes) "so all Israel will be saved" (Rom. 11:24-27). As the article above indicates, are we witnessing the LORD preparing His chosen people to receive Jesus Messiah (Yeshua HaMashiach) when He returns (Zech. 14:4, 9; Acts 1:11)?

Preterism: A Marxist Theological Tool

I was just encouraged and refreshed, reading a blog exposing the fallacies of Preterism, which I first became acquanited with by a member on here, who held the eschatological posiiton of Preterist.


Many observant onlookers have noticed the various degrees and doctrines of compromise running amuck in the Christian Church today. Joel Richardson, author of Islamic Antichrist, has a post on his blogsite www.joelstrumpet.com titled, Preterism: The Marxist's Favorite Theological Tool.

Book Review Link on "Putting Away Childish Things"

For many who don't know Marcus Borg: He's a man who calls himself Christian, which is an oxymoron, because he denies elements central to the gospel such as the divinity of Christ and the virgin birth.  He has also served on the very liberal group who did the Jesus Seminar, which tried to undermine the validity and inerrancy of scripture. 

This man, a false teacher, has written his first work of fiction, no doubt to mislead many from the true faith.

Response to teaching that Israel is made up of Edomites:

I’ve done some researching on what you’ve said about all the people inhabiting Israel being Edomites. As I researched it, I came to four important conclusions that I believe hurt the Church, rather than aid her in her mission. As followers of the one who said, “I am the truth” (Jn 14:6), we should be taken up with possessing and guarding the truth in all things. And as our salvation is a relationship with the Truth (Jn 17:3), all the more.


It does appear that the nation (ethnic group) of Edom (or Esau) has been absorbed into the Jewish race. But this is not a biblical conclusion, nor does it nullify the race of Jews. The fact that the Edomites were absorbed into Israel is a fact of historical, extra-biblical knowledge. And that this fact were true, it does not require that today’s Jews are no longer Jews but Edomites. Throughout OT biblical history, Gentiles were “grafted in” to the Jewish race and religion. We have the story of Ruth, who willingly joined herself to the people of Israel, and in fact is included in the Jewish Messiah’s genealogy.

We have the famous verse that is so often taken out of context and put on wedding cakes:

Ruth 1:16 16 But Ruth said, "Do not urge me to leave you or turn back from following you; for where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God.

So the Edomites, being conquered by Israel, in no way dilutes the gospel promises to the Jewish nation. In fact, within the Torah, Yahweh gave pronouncements for what to do if such wanted to be included among the Jews.


Secondly, the Jews, or Israelites (descended from Jacob) were not God’s chosen people primarily because of their ethnic descent and purity. Amos 9:7 7 "Are you not as the sons of Ethiopia to Me, O sons of Israel?" declares the LORD. "Have I not brought up Israel from the land of Egypt, And the Philistines from Caphtor and the Arameans from Kir?

The Jewish people are God’s chosen because of Yahweh’s free elective grace. The people born into Israel chose no more to do so than the people of Edom. And the Lord chose the place and the times where all men would live (Acts 17:26). So the qualities of being a Jew have to do primarily with the keeping of the Abrahamic covenant (Gen. 15:18, 17:2-9), and secondarily with the ethnic purity. Now a case could be made that the Jews were prohibited from taking a wife from among the Gentiles, in order to keep the Jewish tribes pure. True. But this was precisely the case because the Jews were the only nation on earth that had Yahweh’s truth in revelation. So in order to protect this truth, and the line through which Yahweh would bring the Messiah into the world, He made this prohibition to keep doctrines of false gods and demons out of Israel.


Thirdly, believers who view the people within Israel are missing what God is accomplishing in the world. He has prophesied that after a time of exile for their sins, God wold indeed bring Israel back into the land He had given them. And God made the land desolate for hundreds of years, until the turn of the twentieth century, when the Jews first began to return, the rains also began to return.

Leviticus 26:32-34 32 'I will make the land desolate so that your enemies who settle in it will be appalled over it. 33 'You, however, I will scatter among the nations and will draw out a sword after you, as your land becomes desolate and your cities become waste. 34 'Then the land will enjoy its sabbaths all the days of the desolation, while you are in your enemies' land; then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths

Leviticus 26:44-45 44 'Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, nor will I so abhor them as to destroy them, breaking My covenant with them; for I am the LORD their God. 45 'But I will remember for them the covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God. I am the LORD.'".


The land was made desolate, by the Lord, so that people could not inhabit the holy land until the return of God’s chosen, the Jews (Isaiah 35:7; 32:15).

Recently, when speaking at Auschwitz, Poland, to mark the anniversary of the end of the concentration camps, Benjamin Netanyahu proclaimed to all the world that the prophecies of Ezekiel 37 had been fulfilled. Messianic Jews in America took note. Jan Markell recently made mention of this event, and also stated that the wars of Ezekiel 38 and 39 are expected soon to follow. And lastly, I think by the teaching of this erroneous view, it will turn the attention or energies of well-intentioned evangelical believers away from, or maybe even against the current inhabitants of Israel. Having been there and traveled throughout the country, I met and interacted with many of the Jewish people there, and found that indeed, many of them were there now because of making ‘aliyah’ or there migration from the countries to which they’d been exiled. I encountered Russian Jews, which Russia had a large Jewish population. I spoke with some young Jewish men who had flown in for the summer from Germany. I lived in the Slovak Republic from two years, during which time I made several trips to Prague, where they have a walled-in, historic Jewish town, where the Jews were imprisoned under Communist control.

During this time, when according to prophecies, we are living in the last days, the nations of the world are turning against Israel (according to their ruler/god- 1 Jn 5:19), the evangelical Christians are the last true friend and ally who will stand up for the nation of Israel, God’s chosen people, through which righteousness and peace will be brought to the earth.


Of recent years, there have been more Jews recognizing Yeshua as their Messiah, than any other time in history. Yet they will not recognize him as a nation, until Yahaweh returns (Zech 12:10), at the battle of Armageddon, and they will look upon Him whom they pierced. And so shall all Israel be saved. This is when the truth of the teaching of Salvation by Grace will be seen in its fullness:

25 So that you will not be conceited, brothers, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery: a partial hardening has come to Israel until the full number of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written: The Liberator will come from Zion; He will turn away godlessness from Jacob. 27 And this will be My covenant with them, when I take away their sins.
