Response to J. Evans 10 Reasons Why Jesus is not God

I was presented a video by a Muslim friend of a Islamic show, seeking to disprove Christianity and exalt Islam. The video was a 48 min. presentation of the “The Deen Show”, interviewing a former Christian youth pastor, Josh Evans, who has converted to Islam. This former Christian presents 10 reasons why Jesus Christ is not God.

At the outset, I’d like to make a point about Evans presentation. There is one major premise that shifts the burden of proof somewhat in his favor. This premise is that he uses as his basis of authority is the Quran, to disprove the Bible and show the passages in the Quran are right. That is the same argument Christians are accused of, “You assume the Bible is right, and then say it proves itself. That begs the question.” Evans is saying, “The Quran says the Bible is wrong, and so here is how the Bible is wrong, based on the Quran.” That is a fallacious argument, and not good logic. (Neither did Mr. Evans show good logic throughout his entire presentation, but I’m not going to engage in ad hominem arguments.) You can make that same argument about every other religion, using any other religious text you chose. “Today, Mr. Evans is going to give 10 Reasons how Muhammed Cannot be a prophet based on the teachings of the Bhagavad-Gita.”

In order for this to be legitimate, Mr. Evans has to show how the legitimacy of the Qur’an is greater than that of the Bible, which is some parts, were composed 1000’s of years prior to the Qur’an, and at the latest, 600 years. Mr. Evans does not do this, so his presentation from the outset is illegitimate.

Okay, now to his ten reasons and my response:

Ten Reasons Jesus cannot be God:

10. God cannot be born. Mr. Evans states the Biblical truth that God has been self-existent without beginning for all eternity. This is agrees with the Bible, which is in question here, but Islam takes from the teachings of the Bible (and since Islam came later, 600 A.D., all points where they “agree” is taken, or lifted, from the Biblical religion.)

But the issue here is not really Christianity is wrong because Jesus could not be born if he claims to be God. It seems Evans equivocates on his points, stating that “God is Almighty,” but “he cannot be born.” If the LORD, in His power and wisdom, and concern for the erring human race, wanted to enter humanity, as a creature, what is to stop Him from doing this. The Bible says “Nothing is too hard for the Lord” (Gen. 18:14) and "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (Matt. 19:26).

Mr. Evans misunderstands and misrepresents the character of the Trinity, the Christian God, and so he repeatedly makes erroneous charges against Christianity and Jesus Christ. In His plan, God predetermined all things necessary before the foundation of the earth, for bringing about a “people of his own, eager for good works.”(Titus 2:14; 1 Peter 2:9; Eph. 2:10).

Revelation 13:8 8 All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast-- all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world. {8 Or written from the creation of the world in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain}

So we see from this verse, in the end times book given to the apostle John, that Jesus was chosen according to the will of God the Father, to die for the sins of the elect before earth was created.

God had a plan in His mind for the entire process of salvation, of reconciling a fallen sinful world to Himself. This is a major point on which Judaism and Chrisitianity differ from Islam. The Bible teaches that the first man and his wife disobeyed God in the garden of Eden, when the serpent tempted Eve. She looked at the fruit, saw it was good for food, pleasing to the eye, and good for making one wise she ate the fruit, and her husband also (Genesis 3:1-7). This point of teaching makes Christianity and Judaism different from all other religions on the planet. Islam does not see man as being inherently sinful. But this is precisely what the Bible teaches. Therefore, in Islam, like all other world religions, man can earn or achieve his own salvation, and does not need a Savior. The Bible teaches that because we are all inherently sinful from birth, there is nothing that we can do to earn our own salvation.

Romans 5:12 12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned—

Isaiah 64:6 6 All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

Ecclesiastes 7:20 20 There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins.

Romans 6:23 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:21 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin {21 Or be a sin offering} for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

The apostle James tells us that if we have broken one commandment, we have broken the entire law (James 2:10). The law was a revelation of God’s righteous character. So because we are all sinful (Rom 3:23), and have broken God’s law, we need a redeemer, a propitiation (atoning sacrifice) to satisfy God’s holy wrath. This is why Jesus became a man and came to earth.

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 3:25 25 God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, {25 or as the one who would turn aside his wrath, taking away sin} through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished--

In Islam, you observe the 5 rituals (charity, fasting, alms, etc.) and say the shahada. In Christianity, there is absolutely nothing you can do to satisfy God’s holy anger against your sins which have offended his holiness (especially killing innocents, which Muslims are fond of). The one thing you may do is seek His mercy through His word and praying that He will save you. The Bible teaches that only the elect, those chosen before the foundation of the world, will be saved.

Ephesians 1:4-7 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love 5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace

Leviticus 17:11 11 'For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement.'

Only a human could pay for the sins of humans. But only God could pay for all those being saved, since He , as God, is of infinite worth, and He lived a sinless life on earth. For this reason, Jesus (Yeshua/Joshua~“God saves”) had to identify with us by becoming a man.

Hebrews 10:12 12 but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, SAT DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD, [all caps is a citation from the Old Testament]

9. No verses say that Jesus is God…

“God wasn’t explicit who the Messiah would be”

“We believe John 1:1 – that Jesus was the word of God, we believe that”

To understand the New Testament teaching, this requires a study of the verses, and a knowledge on the use of Jewish titles.

First, we have the demons recognition and proclamation about Jesus:

Luke 8:28 28 Seeing Jesus, he cried out and fell before Him, and said in a loud voice, "What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me." (also Mark 5:7)

Mark 1:24-25 24 saying, "What business do we have with each other, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are-- the Holy One of God!" 25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!"

Luke 4:34-35 34 "Let us alone! What business do we have with each other, Jesus 2of Nazareth? HaveYou come to destroy us? I know who You are-- the Holy One of God!" 35 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet and come out of him!" And when the demon had thrown him down in the midst of the people, he came out of him without doing him any harm.

Acts 16:16-17 16 It happened that as we were going to the place of prayer, a slave-girl having a spirit of divination met us, who was bringing her masters much profit by fortune-telling. 17 Following after Paul and us, she kept crying out, saying, "These men are bond-servants of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation."

Acts 19:15-16 15 And the evil spirit answered and said to them, "I recognize Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?" 16 And the man, in whom was the evil spirit, leaped on them and subdued all of them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

Okay, now why would Jesus and the disciples tell the demons to be quiet? Because Jesus didn’t want the people consulting demons or demonic forces to lead them to a right relationship with God. He wants all people to come through Him to the Father. “I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father except through Me.” (Jn 14:6).

Next, we have the proclamation of John the Baptist.

John 1:26-27, 29 26 John answered them saying, "I baptize in water, but among you stands One whom you do not know. 27 "It is He who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie."… 29 The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

Caiaphas, the night before his crucifixion, on Passover weekend, questioned Jesus if He were the Son of the Most High, the expected deliverer of Israel.

Matthew 26:63-65 63 But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest said to Him, "I adjure You by the living God, that You tell us whether You are the Christ, the Son of God." 64 Jesus said to him, "You have said it yourself; nevertheless I tell you, hereafter you will see THE SON OF MAN SITTING AT THE RIGHT HAND OF POWER, and COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN." 65 Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "He has blasphemed! What further need do we have of witnesses? Behold, you have now heard the blasphemy;

Because the Jews were looking for a Messiah who woiuld deliver them politically from the hands of the oppressive Roman empire, and give them the literal rule of the kingdoms of earth, Jesus did not want to declare himself out and out as the Messiah, knowing that this would draw the wrong types of people, and create a misunderstanding as to the true nature of His first purpose in coming down, to destroy the works of the evil one, Satan, through His work on the cross.

1 John 3:8 8 the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.

This is why Jesus chose to use a different Messianic title, “the Son of Man.” Of course, it was not a title used exclusively of Christ, as Evans points out, but in the Jewish mind, with their background in the Tanach (Old Testament/Covenant), they though primarily of Daniel ch. 7 where the everlasting dominion and power is given to one like a ‘son of man’ (looks like a human) who approaches the ancient of days.

12 As for the rest of the beasts, their authority to rule was removed, but an extension of life was granted to them for a certain period of time. 13 I continued watching in the night visions, and I saw One like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was escorted before Him. 14 He was given authority to rule, and glory, and a kingdom; so that those of every people, nation, and language should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and His kingdom is one that will not be destroyed.   Dan 7:12-14 (HCSB)

THIS was the passage primarily that Jesus referred to in calling himself the Son of Man. It was to THIS Son of Man Jesus referred to. It’s interesting isn’t it, with all the conflict in the Middle East today, from which out of the Lord called Abraham (Genesis 11:31), that the prophet Daniel lived in Iraq when he had these dreams/visions about the end times?

So as to verses in the Bible that say “Jesus Christ is to be the Messiah,” there are none of those. But there are many prophetic scriptures given to recognize the Messiah. I’m leading a group through Genesis right now, and it’s interesting the genealogical line through which the Messiah comes, which continues to narrow down through Biblical history. It starts with Adam and Eve’s children. God makes a promise to Eve, that a “seed” (descendent) of hers will crush the head of the serpent (Satan) Gen. 3:15: “He will strike your head, you will strike his heel.” Cain kills his righteous brother Abel, so the Lord gives Eve another son to replace Abel, named Seth. The line goes through Seth. Noah was a great grandson of Seth, and the earth was greatly wicked, so the Lord judged the earth with the flood and all the families of the earth, except the family of Noah, of the lineage of Seth, were destroyed. After the flood, Noah gets drunk on some wine, and his son Ham mocks him. So Ham is cursed, Shem is blessed with the Messianic/spiritual blessings, and Japeth is blessed to extend through the earth (Gen. 9:24-27). I am descended from Japeth, as are most from Turkey north into Europe and Russia. You might be interested to study that and find out who your great forefather was, which of the three sons of Noah.

But the messianic promises narrow further to Abraham, in Genesis ch. 12, of the line of Shem, father of the Semitic peoples. The promises pass on to Isaac, not Ishamel, who was firstborn, and on which Muslims and Jews and Christians differ. But throughout the Old Testament, the younger is chosen over the older, to show that it is of God and not of man. God will not share His glory. I could go one with Messianic promises, but will give three here, that would be impossible to fulfill within three people.

1. 15 “The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him. Deut 18:15 (HCSB)

· I know Muslims claim this as Muhammed. But Muhammed was not of the Jews, and the usage of the term ‘brothers’ does not have the capability to refer to Arabs, though many were descended also from Shem. They were not ‘brothers,’ but cousins. Jesus fulfilled this prophecy, in that He taught and observed the Torah of God in exact concordance as it was given to Moses. Muhammed did not do this. In John 6, John records a time where Jesus miraculously fed five thousand men, with wives and children, so the total number was more probably at least 12,000 people.

· John 6:13-14 13 So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. 14 Therefore when the people saw the sign which He had performed, they said, "This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world."

2. Isaiah 7:14 14 "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.

· We know that Jesus was born of Mary, who was a virgin until after Jesus’ birth. Immanuel means “God is with us.” A prophecy of the incarnation of Jesus, God the Son.

3. 2 Bethlehem Ephrathah, you are small among the clans of Judah; One will come from you to be ruler over Israel for Me. His origin is from antiquity, from eternity. Micah 5:2 (HCSB)

· Muhammed was not born in Israel, nor Bethlehem. And certainly Muhammed would not claim to have existed from eternity. Jesus filled this prophecy, as his earthly father, Joseph was of the lineage of King David, and David’s birthplace was Bethlehem. So at the census of the Jews, Joseph and Mary returned to Bethlehem, where the pregnant virgin gave birth to the Messiah, fulfilling the prophecy (Luke 2:1-7). And as the prophet declared that this ‘ruler’s’ origin is from eternity, we see another evidence for the divinity of Jesus. The statistical probabilities of all these prophecies being met in Jesus is so large to be astrological! You’ve got a better chance at winning the lottery every year for the rest of your life!

8. No man has seen God- therefore if Jesus is God, this would be a false statement

This is referring to God the Father, who still exists in His infinite form. And as finite creatures, even the redeemed people in heaven, bought by Christ’s shed blood, will never be able to see all of God, in His infinitude.

Again, here Josh is rejecting the Biblical teaching of the Trinity, and then saying that this teaching is wrong. That is a faulty logical assumption. If Jesus is who He claims to be in the Bible, the second person of the infinite, eternal God-head, who was born as a human baby, then of course He has seen or would be able to have seen God.

Matthew 19:26 26 And looking at them Jesus said to them, "With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

7. This concept was not taught by Jesus nor his disciples.

Mr. Evans stated that the first Christians still considered themselves as part of Judaism. For the first three to five years, the Christian church was all Jews. And they rightly saw Christianity as the fulfillment of Biblical Judaism.

Mr. Evans stated how the Qumran community were not followers of Yeshua/Jesus. These never were. This community was always an apocalyptic type community living atop Qumran, copying the scrolls of the Bible. But they never at any point followed the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. This is no way invalidates the Christian teaching.

Mr.. Evans said that Christian worship and beliefs were concocted in 325 A.D. This flies in the face of tons of historical literature from pre 325 A.D. There are writings from many ancient church fathers, much of which can be read online, that were from the generation or two following the life of Christ and his apostels. Polycarp was a disciple of John, and much is known about his life. http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/martyrdompolycarp.html

Even a simple reading of the book Paul wrote to the Galatian believers (in Turkey) will show this false, and it was written sometime between 40-65 A.D. All of the apostles except John were martyred, and the apostle John died in the city of Ephesus in the mid 90s A.D.

The entire teaching of the divinity of Christ, the Trinity and Christians, etc. is and was in the New Testament, which was completely by 90 A.D. with the book of revelation given to the apostle John, concerning the end-times, and Yahweh’s judgment on evil and the restoration of all things.

Evans said that Jesus never taught the Trinity. This is like the homosexuals who say “Jesus never tuahgt against homosexuality, so he was okay with it.” Both arguments are complete nonsense. There are lots of parts of the Old Testament that it is not recorded as Jesus having spoke to. But Jesus did believe and teach that the Old Testament revelation the Jews had was the truth, and said so. John 17:17 17 "Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.” Jesus completely affirmed all scripture revelation that had been given to the make up the Tanakh, and told the apostles that after he was taken from the earth, he would give more teachings to them through the Holy Spirit who would illuminate their minds and inspire them.

John 16:12-15 12 "I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. 14 "He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. 15 "All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.

The Biblical teaching on the Trinity is difficult for us to understand, but it was believed by most of the early church. What happened in 325 A.D. at the Nicean council was the church was formulating an agreed upon creed for the belief in the God-hood of three persons as One God. This was done in response to cults which were distorting Christian doctrines.

Evans said Bible scholars have removed 1 John 5:7 from the New Testament. I’m not sure where he gets his information. In my bible, it says: 1 John 5:7-8 7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. Evans says this in his argument against the Trinity, trying to dismiss the Trinity, but this verse taken in context is not a reference to the Trinity, but rather speaking a three-fold testimony to the witness about Jesus’ Messianic work on the cross.

2 Corinthians 13:14 14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

Romans 1:4 4 who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord,

These are two verses that mention the three persons of the God-head together. For a look on the teachings of the three persons of the God-head, you can look at http://www.sbc.net/bfm/bfm2000.asp which gives a thorough listing of the Biblical passages on each person of the Trinity under the main heading of God.

6. Jesus slept, ate, drank… God is self-sufficient

The remark that God is self-sufficient and does not experience weakness as His divine self is completely true. The fact that Jesus ate, slept and drank is a testimony to his full humanity, which is part of the wonder of the incarnation, that God became human to become the atoning sacrifice for our sins, as the Passover lamb. The miracle of the incarnation is that the infinite God became a human being to completely identify with us as created beings, and be able to take our punishment for sins upon Himself.

Philippians 2:5-8 5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Hebrews 2:17 17 For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for {17 Or and that he might turn aside God's wrath, taking away} the sins of the people.

5. Jesus claimed that God’s knowledge was greater than His.

Again, this is part of the wonder of the Incarnation of Messiah. As we saw, his goings forth were from eternity, as stated by the prophet Micah (5:2) and as Isaiah says, He is the “father of eternal life” (Isah. 9:6).

Isaiah 9:6 6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, {6 Or Wonderful, Counselor} Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Though he was prophesied to be a human/divine deliverer by the prophets of old, in his humanity, we see he emptied Himself, temporarily, of some of His divine attributes, while in His human life before the crucifixion. Phil 2:7-8 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Evans cited Mt. 24 where Jesus stated He did not know the day nor hour of the final judgment. This is to his disciples while on earth, before His reascension to glory. Of course He knows the day and hour now, and as the world leaders work on a global currency and imposition of rule predicted long ago by the prophet Daniel, for the last earthly kingdom, Jesus eagerly anticipates His soon coming for His church (where I and my family are going to be taken), but He also knows the near time of His parousia or Second-coming where He will reign for 1000 years as Lord of all (in contradiction to the teachings of Islam).

Evans cited John 14:28, “The Father is greater than I.” Of course, in Christ’s human state, and in the role of “Son”, where Jesus voluntarily submits Himself to the will of God the Father, He submits Himself to God the Father, and confesses that the Father is greater than Himself. Though in His being, Jesus is equal to God the Father and God the Holy Spirit in every way. A study of the verses listed in the Baptist Faith and Message, cited above, will detail this.

Evans says that “the concept of Trinity cannot be understood…” and therefore concludes that it must be wrong. As finite beings, humans will never be able to fully grasp God the Creator, who is infinite in being. But this is no way renders the Biblical teachings wrong, in fact more so proves the truth of the matter. For if humans cannot understand the teaching of the Trinity, how could humans invent a concept like this? Would it not be impossible to invent something you could not understand or conceive of?

4. Jesus explicitly states that He is Not God.

This is precisely what Jesus taught and claimed. But to come right out directly and claim this, would not have served Jesus’ purpose for His first coming (advent) to the earth, as the Jews were looking for an earthly, political deliverer, and God’s plans went so far beyond that, to pay the price for human sins, and reconcile men to Himself once that is done, through grace, evidenced by faith in those who have received the gift of salvation.

The Bible also teaches that those who truly believe, never depart from the faith. 1 John 2:19 19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us. Mr. Evans, though he at one point functioned as a youth pastor, it does not mean he knew Christ as His personal Lord and Savior. The fact that he left the faith for Islam indicates by divine revelation, that he never did know Christ. “This is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” Jn. 17:3. In this verse, Jesus, siginifies that eternal life is a relationship where the person knows God in an intimate way. This is achieved by having the shed blood of Jesus applied to our lives, so that we can have all our sins forgiven, that the righteousness of Chirst might be applied to our lives.

Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.

2 Corinthians 5:21 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin {21 Or be a sin offering} for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

And now for the BIG THREE!

3. “Son of God” not exclusive title to Jesus Christ

This is indeed true, but that a title is applied to other persons in no way invalidates a title of its intended meaning. Son of God was indeed applied to other peoples in the O.T., as was the title ‘gods.’ God was applied to the judges of Israel during the time recorded in the book of Judges, where Israel had no king or prophets, but was presided over by Judges, who were to help keep rule over the tribes of Israel. The Lord told Moses that he was to be as God to the Jews as he went forth to bring them out of slavery in the land of Egypt.

In Satan’s temptation of Jesus, Satan addresses Him: Matthew 4:6-7 6 "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written: "'He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'" {6 Psalm 91:11,12} 7 Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"

- so essentially, Satan, when he tempted Christ, addressing Him as the Son of God, dares Him to throw Himself off a temple to prove it, and have God the Father save him. It seems that Satan has an understanding of the Trinity.

Ali, we have already seen what the demons thought of Jesus, and how they responded to Him. Let’s look at another passage that also shows Jesus’ power over nature.

Matthew 8:24-32 24 Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" 26 He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. 27 The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!" 28 When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, {28 Some manuscripts Gergesenes; others Gerasenes} two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. 29 "What do you want with us, Son of God?" they shouted. "Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?" 30 Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. 31 The demons begged Jesus, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs." 32 He said to them, "Go!" So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.

2. Evans cited Malachi 3:6, “I the LORD do not change”

The full verse states Malachi 3:6 6 "I the LORD do not change. So you, O descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.

Taken in context of what the prophet was stating here, the LORD (Yahweh), tells the people of Israel that He does not destroy them for their disobedience because of His covenantal promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. God does not change. It means that Yahweh is faithful and true to His promises. God knows the end from before the beginning of creation. He is eternal, and He knows the outcome of the end before the beginning because He is there.

We have seen that in His Incarnation, Jesus emptied Himself of some of His divine attributes, because “He did not consider equality with God a thing to be grasped. Phil. 2:6.” And of course, identifying with humans in every way, by becoming human, God would naturally and freely subject Himself to hunger, tiredness, sleep, etc. To not have these traits is to not be human. But I also wonder if these are “weaknesses,” in that, these are not results of the curse of sin, but God created humans to function and live in this way. In fact, without hunger, we would not know our bodies needed replenishment. And without eating, we would not enjoy great meals that taste really good, that are made from the beauty and bounty of God’s good creation.

1. God is the Essence of Worship – Had Jesus been God, He Would Have Told People to Worship Him.”

The gospels in the New Testament reveal that this was not Jesus’ purpose, to outright declare His divinity. If this had been done, all people would have fallen and worshipped Jesus. In fact, some of the apostles were worshipped for miraculous healings they were performing. But they tore their clothes and told them not to, but to worship the true God, which was Jesus.

Acts 14:11, 14-15 11 When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they raised their voice, saying in the Lycaonian language, "The gods have become like men and have come down to us." 14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they tore their robes and rushed out into the crowd, crying out 15 and saying, "Men, why are you doing these things? We are also amen of the same nature as you, and preach the gospel to you that you should turn from these vain things to a living God, WHO MADE THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH AND THE SEA AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM.

Jesus wanted people to respond to Him in faith, not because they had to. God wants a heart of faith, that is humble, gentle and kind.

Isaiah 57:15 15 For thus says the high and exalted One Who lives forever, whose name is Holy, "I dwell on a high and holy place, And also with the contrite and lowly of spirit In order to revive the spirit of the lowly And to revive the heart of the contrite.

But we do see instances where Jesus is given worship by orthodox Jews, and their worship is not refused.

Luke 5:4-9 4 When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, "Put out into the deep water and alet down your nets for a catch." 5 Simon answered and said, "Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but 1I will do as You say and let down the nets." 6 When they had done this, they enclosed a great quantity of fish, and their nets began to break; 7 so they signaled to their partners in the other boat for them to come and help them. And they came and filled both of the boats, so that they began to sink. 8 But when Simon Peter saw that, he fell down at Jesus' feet, saying, "Go away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!" 9 For amazement had seized him and all his companions because of the catch of fish which they had taken;

Mark 8:27-31 27 Jesus went out, along with His disciples, to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He questioned His disciples, saying to them, "Who do people say that I am?" 28 They told Him, saying, "John the Baptist; and others say Elijah; but others, one of the prophets." 29 And He continued by questioning them, " But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered and said to Him, "You are the Christ." 30 And He warned them to tell no one about Him. 31 And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

Matthew 21:1-11 When they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. 3 "If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, 'The Lord has need of them,' and immediately he will send them." 4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: 5 "SAY TO THE DAUGHTER OF ZION, 'BEHOLD YOUR KING IS COMING TO YOU, GENTLE, AND MOUNTED ON A DONKEY, EVEN ON A COLT, THE FOAL OF A BEAST OF BURDEN.'" 6 The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them, 7 and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their coats on them; and He sat on the coats. 8 Most of the crowd spread their coats in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in the road. 9 The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David; BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD; Hosanna in the highest!" 10 When He had entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, "Who is this?" 11 And the crowds were saying, "This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee."

· Here, we see Jesus is rightly worshipped as the Messiah, and clearly he thought himself a King, by entering on a donkey, as was the tradition of Jewish kings.

John 20:24-29 24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples were saying to him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe." 26 After eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors having been shut, and stood in their midst and said, "Peace be with you." 27 Then He said to Thomas, "Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing." 28 Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" 29 Jesus said to him, "Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed."

I have countered every point that Mr. Evans gave as to why Jesus is not God. And as I have shown that the Bible does indeed teach that Jesus Christ is God Almighty in human flesh, you are presented with a choice. You must either believe and confess Jesus Christ as the living Son of God, or reject this gospel, this good news that God has made a way for you to be forgiven of your sins through the death and resurrection of His Son, who was prophesied and foretold by the Jewish prophets.

1 John 5:9-12 9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for the testimony of God is this, that He has testified concerning His Son. 10 The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. 11 And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.

The Irish Prove a Young Earth???

The Irish prove a young earth???

Hahaha... it sounds pretty incredible doesn't it? But really it's not just the Irish, but also the Norweigans, Danes, and Anglo-Saxons, Britons... I've been doing a study through Genesis, and was looking online to see if I could find anything on Genesis 10, known as the table of Nations, where the Sons of Noah are shown moving out into the different regions of the earth.

I came across this e-book, which I'd never heard of (on a site I never heard of), with a topic I"d never begun to imagine. The author is part of the British Christian Science Movement in the UK. It was the first "creation science" movement, done in protest to the Darwinian teachings of Evolution. The author of this particular book I found, Bill Cooer, titles his work, After the Flood. In it, he recounts the knowlege of God among ancient pagan naations, and moves into the geneologies that Kings often kept in their courts library, to prove their lineage from the founder of their people/clan and right down from Noah. That's right, these people kept geneologies in their A.D. kingdoms to trace lineage right down from Noah.

http://ldolphin.org/cooper/index.html

Amongst the ancient records that the Britons themselves left behind, there is preserved (in Nennius at least) a list of the ancestors of the early British kings as they were counted generation by generation back to Japheth, the son of Noah. But the history of the Britons as a distinct nation had its beginnings with the fall of Troy, and it is at this point that Geoffrey of Monmouth and the Welsh chronicles take up the story. [ch.5]

...

To be fair, the Saxons do not seem to have brought over with them a detailed chronicled history of their nation like that possessed by the Britons or, indeed, the Irish Celts which we shall examine later. That is not to say that none existed, of course just that none has survived to the present day from that pre-emigration period. What has survived, however, is a detailed genealogy of the pre-migration, and hence pre-Christian, kings of the Saxons, and this enables us to take Saxon history back, generation by generation, to the earliest years after the Flood. But this is no new discovery. It was everyday knowledge to the historians of previous centuries. On Thursday 6th July 1600, for example, a certain Elizabethan tourist, Baron Waldstein, visited London's Lambeth Palace. His journal tells us that in one of the rooms there he saw:

'...a splendid genealogy of all the Kings of England, and another genealogy, a historical one, which covers the whole of time and is traced down from the Beginning of the World.' (1)

Later, arriving at Richmond Palace on 28th July, he saw in the library there:

'... beautifully set out on parchment, a genealogy of the kings of England which goes back to Adam.' (2)

And not only in Cooper's book do we see a geneological accoiunts of the European tribes descending from the sons of Noah, through Japheth (Sceaf is one rendering) and Magog, but after discussing the geneologies, and modernists attempts to discredit them, he looks at historical recorded sightings of Dinosaurs, recorded much throughout ancient A.D. Europe, up through the 1800s, and one instance in the early 1900s. In fact, many of us have read some of the historical accounts, but have not recognized it. Why because of mistranslation (purposeful?) and the veil laid over our eyes by "modernist" ideologies and teachers that teach an old earth and dinosaurs living millions of years before man. One account many have read is the tale of Beowolf.

By the time of his slaying the monster Grendel in AD 515, Beowulf himself had already become something of a seasoned hunter of large reptilian monsters. He was renowned amongst the Danes at Hrothgar's court for having cleared the local sea lanes of monstrous animals whose predatory natures had been making life hazardous for the open boats of the Vikings. Fortunately, the Anglo-Saxon poem, written in pure celebration of his heroism, has preserved for us not just the physical descriptions of some of the monsters that Beowulf encountered, but even the names under which certain species of these animals were known to the Saxons and Danes.

However, in order to understand exactly what it is that we are reading when we examine these names, we must appreciate the nature of the Anglo-Saxon language. The Anglo-Saxons (like the modern Germans and Dutch) had a very simple method of word construction, and their names for everyday objects can sometimes sound amusing to our modern English ears when translated literally. A body, for example, was simply a bone-house (banhus), and a joint a bone-lock (banloca). When Beowulf speaks to his Danish interrogator, he is said quite literally to have unlocked his word-hoard (wordhord onleoc). Beowulf's own name means bear, and it is constructed in the following way. The Beo-element is the Saxon word for bee, and his name means literally a bee-wolf. The bear has a dog-like face and was seen by those who wisely kept their distance to apparently be eating bees when it raided their hives for honey. So they simply called the bear a bee-wolf. Likewise, the sun was called woruldcandel, lit. the world-candle. It was thus an intensely literal but at the same time highly poetic language, possessing great and unambiguous powers of description.

The slaying of Grendel is the most famous of Beowulf's encounters with monsters of course, and we shall come to look closely at this animal's physical description as it is given in the Beowulf epic. But in Grendel's lair, a large swampy lake, there lived other reptilian species that were collectively known by the Saxons as wyrmeynnes (lit. wormkind, a race of monsters and serpents--the word serpent in those days meant something rather more than a snake). Beowulf and his men came across them as they were tracking the female of Grendel's species back to her lair after she had killed and eaten King Hrothgar's minister, Asshere, whose half-eaten head was found on the cliff-top overlooking the lake.

Amongst them were creatures that were known to the Saxons and Danes as giant saedracan (sea-drakes or sea-dragons), and these were seen from the cliff-top suddenly swerving through the deep waters of the lake. Perhaps they were aware of the arrival of humans. Other creatures were lying in the sun when Beowulf's men first saw them, but at the sound of the battle-horn they scurried back to the water and slithered beneath the waves. [ch. 10]

...

There are several Anglo-Saxon words that share the same root as Grendel. The Old English word grindan, for example, and from which we derive our word grind, used to denote a destroyer. But the most likely origin of the name is simply the fact that Grendel is an onomatopoeic term derived from the Old Norse grindill, meaning a storm or grenja, meaning to bellow. The word Grendel is strongly reminiscent of the deep-throated growl that would be emitted by a very large animal and it came into Middle English usage as grindel, meaning angry.

To the hapless Danes who were the victims of his predatory raids, however, Grendel was not just an animal. To them he was demon-like, one who was synnum beswenced (afflicted with sins). He was godes ansaca (God's adversary), the synscatha (evil-doer) who was wonsaeli (damned), a very feond on helle (devil in hell)! He was one of the grund-wyrgen, accursed and murderous monsters who were said by the Danes to be descended from Cain himself. And it is descriptions such as these of Grendel's nature that convey something of the horror with which the men of those times anticipated his raids on their homesteads. [ch.10]

This book is a most fascinating read, and refreshing for strengthening and edifying your faith. If you love the old European names found in Lord of the Rings or Naria or such, you've got to read this book, and this will give you a new understanding and appreciation of your history, and strengthen your belief that the account in the book of Geneisis is indeed historical.

Islamic U.S. prelude to rule of the Mahdi (Antichrist)

Ali Akbar Dareini wrote an article for the AP that tells us that a radical [orthodox, i.e. faithful] Muslim cleric talked about envisioning the creation of a "greater Iran" which would include the entire Middle East and Central Asia, and be a prelude to the coming single global ruler of the universal Islamic Caliphate, the Madhi.

World, you better start practicing Arabic.  You're going to soon become very familiar with it.  J. Richardson in his book, The Islamic Antichrist, talks about the similarities of the Biblical end-times sceneraio, and Muslim eschatology.  Islam's Madhi, their supposed deliverer, in Islamic tradition, fits to a T the Biblical Antichrist, the person who enters the scene with a 7 yr. peace plan to bring peace to the Middle East.

In the AP article, Ayatollah Mohammad Bagher Kharrazi spoke of the "greater Iran" he envisioned, but said it would "bring about the destruction of the Jewish state."  In the book of Revelation, the apocalyptic book of hte Bible, Satan is described as a dragon, who is trying to devour the child born to the woman with a crown of twelve stars on her head.  The woman is helped by the earth (yes tree-huggers, nature-lovers, the Bible teaches the earth is on the side of its Maker, not on the side of you!).

We have seen through history the persecution of the Jews, from nearly all parts of the world, yet they have survived, and even thrived in spite of it.  Now, after 1800 years in exile among the nations, God has restored the Jews to the land he promised to Abraham, the "called-out Iraqi," in fulfillment of the promises of Ezekiel 36, 37.  Chapter 37 is commonly known in historic Christian America as the "Valley of Dead Bones."

We can see (if we are willing) the truth of the Apocalyptic book of Revelation, and of the dragon's attempts to destroy the male-child, destined to rule over the nations (see Dan. 7, the dominion of the Son of Man) in all the historic attempts to destroy the Jews as a people.  Most recent in history (besides the constant attacks from Muslims in the "West Bank" (a.k.a. religous, historical Israel) was the holocaust, of which Muslims, and certain black liberationist groups deny.

But within the apocalyptic pages of scripture, the Antichrist, a.k.a. the man of lawlessness (2 Thess 2:3,4), we see he will declare himself to be God 3 1/2 yrs into the "peace covenant" he has enacted with the Middle East (2 Thess. 2:4; Dan. 9:27).  At this point, much to the chagrin of Muslims, this Madhi, will demand personal worship and allegeiance, and all who do not bow will have their heads chopped off, another similarity with the prophetic pages (Revelation 20:4).

Islam will be the final one-world religion.  We see all around us, with PRESIDENT BARRACK OBAMA's complicit willingness/fear/eagerness to allow for and promote Islam in the United States of America, while he disdains and undermines America's Christian heritage.  ISLAM IS GAINING GROUND IN THE U.S.A.  Ahmadenijad, and other Muslim clerics have warned America to convert of face the consequences.  This is part of the formula for converting/conquering peoples and lands.  First, they are warned, and if the do not heed the warning, the Muslims are justified in waging jihad on that nation/people.  IT IS COMING AMERICA, make no doubt.

In fact, this may be the national "catastrophe" that BARRACK HESSEIN OBAMA will exploit to seize control of the U.S. and make us into a military state.  The more I have studied and learned, and observed in the world, the more I am convinced that the single most important book in life is the Holy Bible. It is the most historically validated book, and there IS MORE EVIDENCE THAT JESUS CHRIST WAS RAISED FROM THE DEAD THAN THAT ABRAHAM LINCOLN EXISTED!

If you want to get ready for the end-times, and the judgments that God is already beginning to pour out, you need to repent of your sins, and surrender control of you life to the LORD Jesus Christ.  He's return is soon, and this man who garners the worship and allegiance of the world is going to be destroyed by the shining of the LORD's glorious appearance.  If you want to be preserved and made right with your Creator, do the above, and love the LORD your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.  If you don't want to be put right with HIM, disregard what I just said (Rev 14:6,7).

Obama World President? Forerunner to Antichrist!

Jan Markell of Olive Tree Views, wrote a recent article, speaking of all the talk on the internet, and in newspapers throughout the world that have given such accolades to Barack Hussein as "Messiah" and "World President."  When he campaigned in 2008, he spoke to masses around the world with the promises of world unity.  But clearly, he has yet to bring that.

Eventually the antichrist will accomplish this, so Obama’s efforts are a run-up to it. During the campaign, he mesmerized the world. Not everyone was fooled, but the world is so longing for a “man with a plan,” a “Mr. Fix-it,” that they bought his redistribution of wealth statements and overlooked a dozen dangerous associations and said they just didn’t matter because this was the closest the world had come in modern history to this so-called “President of the world.” Shortly after the 2008 election, Tunisia was just one country of several that headlined the story, “Today America elects ‘the president of the world.’ “

Markell goes on and shows through the research of David Horowitz, that most of the world is in favor of Mr. Obama.  But in the article, Markell concludes that he still doesn't qualify for the ungodly title Antichrist.  This man is still to come.

She cites the sentiment off someone's blog: There is coming that “single leader.” Could it be that the world is turning into such a mess so that he — the antichrist — will soon come along and say, “I have the answer to solve all these problems”? Obama’s “messiahship” can’t come close to that of the antichrist who will be demonically-appointed to pull a million rabbits out of hats. So what we see now is just a microcosm of what will really happen. [bold mine]

Jefferson Supported Government Sanction of Christian Ministry

Much has gone on in our day about "seperation of Church and State" to the extent that most Americans are confused on this topic, and believe that the government, if anything, should squash down the Christian religion and make room for religous diversity, neverminding that the great religion that founded our great nation teaches that there is only one narrow way of salvation.

Paul Barreca did an article in the The Daily Journal which is a brief treatment on how Christian Morality is the source of America's greatness.  Firstly, he clears up the confusion for us on the matter of the phrase, "seperation of Church and State".

The phrase "separation of church and state" does not appear in any of the founding documents, either at the state or national level. The phrase is not in the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, or the constitution of any of the individual states. The first known documentation of this phrase is in a letter from President Jefferson written to an association of Baptist churches in Danbury Connecticut. The phrase lay dormant and virtually un-referenced until Justice Hugo Back quoted Jefferson (out of context) in "Everson vs. Board of Education, 1947."

Barreca tells us that: "The First Amendment was not written to shield American citizens from public religious activities, which were normal, frequent and practiced without objection until recently [historically]."  He goes on in the article to point out that if anyone was restricted in the First Ammendment, it is the Congress, protect U.S. citizens from Federal intrusion into public religious life.  Much as it was when our first forebears fled the countries of Europe, where the State, the governments were tied to the Roman Catholic and Anglican church, which was imposed upon all citizenry.  To follow the teachings of the Bible instead, and not comply with the government religion, was to face fines, imprisonment, torture and death as heretics.

The founders routinely cited their religious beliefs and called upon Americans to practice religious virtue. Thomas Jefferson, who is regarded by secularists as a proponent of a secular society, actually supported religious involvement in government. In a treaty with the Kaskaskia Indians, Congress provided for a church building and a Christian chaplain. President Jefferson signed the bill into law and authorized that the government pay $300 to build a church.
It seems that those in America who want to remove the Bible and Christian instruction from school have the law and America's great legacy inverted.  Those in power now do not want this known by the masses, as they seek to promote their Marxist agendas, which turn the people to the government, rather than to knowing and excercising their own, God-given rights and freedoms known and practiced under Christianity.

As this is removed from public schools and instruction, our country continues to descend into immorality, strife and poverty.  America, "choose life, that you may live... by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him" (Deuternomy 30:19-20).

Book Review Link on "Putting Away Childish Things"

For many who don't know Marcus Borg: He's a man who calls himself Christian, which is an oxymoron, because he denies elements central to the gospel such as the divinity of Christ and the virgin birth.  He has also served on the very liberal group who did the Jesus Seminar, which tried to undermine the validity and inerrancy of scripture.

This man, a false teacher, has written his first work of fiction, no doubt to mislead many from the true faith.
Lighthouse trails has posted a book review of Borg's work by free-lance writer Ted Kyle:

As a story, this is not an easy read, being burdened with its load of liberal doctrine. But as a literary device to lead the unwary into swallowing that doctrine, along with the vulnerable student, Erin, it may succeed very well. Readers should be aware that this is an agenda-driven book. Virtually everything in it is there for a purpose.

Is Islam for Women? Part II

This brief blog is a little addendum to the previous blog on whether Islam if for Women?  Ever notice how all the stronly feminist groups say nothing when it comes to Islam's bad treatment of women?  Even though it is sanctioned in their religion, and by their "prophet," whom Jesus would label as a wolf in sheep's clothing.

One woman is speaking up, and speaking up of  her unbelief of the liberal feminist groiups that are remaining quiet on this issue!

Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America (CWA), is shocked at how Islam treats women. "Concerned Women for America has been vocal in denouncing the appalling way that Muslims treat women, and we're sorry that the feminists are not willing to join us in denouncing radical Islam," she comments.
http://www.onenewsnow.com/Culture/Default.aspx?id=992958; accessed May 01,2010.

To be sure, Pamela Geller, of Atlas Shrugs also speaks out almost all facets of Islam.  Americans, you love democracy, freedom... if we allow Islam to make headway into this country as a political force, as in Europe, look for America to be further fundamentally transformed.  And Hillary Clinton thinks she cracked the glass ceiling?  In Islam that ceiling is about a 1,000 ft. thicker!  Where's Hillary when you need her?

Men within Christianity, as the "head" of their spousal union, are supposed to honor women as the weaker partner, so that their prayers will not be hindered.  Marriage was ordained by God among the societies of earth as a picture of the covenental relationship He has (or desires to have) with humanity.  As Christ is the head of the Church (Eph 4:23) so the husband is to be the head of the wife.  And as the Church lovingly, desirously, and zealously submits herself to her head, Christ, so the wife is to do so to her husband within a marriage covenant (Eph 4:24).

The reason most women out there do not want to submit to their husbands (well, there's several factors), but mostly is that the husband do not know or follow Christ as their leader, Savior and Lord.  When the men do this, then God gives them the ability to be a servant-leader in the marriage relationship.

And within Islam, in which salvation is merited by works observed or performed in life (with no real bearing on the heart), salvation is only guaranteed if a person dies in battle with an infidel.  It's enough to get the liberal anti-America groups to be quiet!  Seriously though, if one desires to be saved from the injustice, iniquity and inequality in the world, they agree with God about their sinfulness (lying, cursing, sexual immorality, taking God's name in vain, hatred, greed, etc.  Gal. 5:19-21), and surrender control of their lives to their Lord, Jesus Messiah.  He came once to take away sins, for all who place their faith in His work on the cross, where, according to scripture, Jesus died in your place, taking your punishment on the cross. (Rom 3:23-25; 1 John 2:2, 4:10).

16 “For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world that He might condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 Anyone who believes in Him is not condemned, but anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the One and Only Son of God.

John 3:16-18 (HCSB)
