Anti-Israel Bias Infiltrating BP Press

Anti-Israel Bias at Baptist Press

I've become increasingly distressed that Baptist Press, my own denominations news service, seems to have such a pro-Palestinian approach to coverage of issues in Israel. They primarily do not cover any of the significant events of Israel, and when they do it typically puts Israel in a bad light.

Two articles distributed March 29 are typical of the BP coverage. The first article contained these words:

It's been years of territorial back and forth for the two groups, ending most recently in 2009 after a war that saw 1,300 Palestinians and 13 Israelis die. Since then, relative calm had pervaded, and Israel had seemed like the eye of the political storm sweeping the region.

But that all changed in the past few weeks.

More than 80 rockets and mortar shells have been launched from the Palestinian territory of Gaza into southern Israel, and the bus bomb that killed Gardner injured more than 30 others. Retaliatory attacks by Israel have killed 10 Palestinians, with Israeli officials voicing regret over the deaths of two teens playing football outside their house.

A war of 1,300 vs. 13 gives the impression of a brutal government (Israel) terrorizing a helpless people (Palestinians). Notice that the rockets were launched "from the Palestinian territory" rather than "by Palestinians" or "by Hamas." The "bus bomb" was mentioned with no indication of its origin, and the brutal killing of the Jewish family (mostly young children killed in their sleep) the week before was never mentioned. The "retaliatory attacks by Israel" that killed 10 Palestinians (assumedly retaliation for the one death of the bus bomb) are not elaborated upon other than to say 2 of the 10 were teens playing football (once again, a brutal nation terrorizing innocent Palestinians).

Furthermore, the 100:1 ratio of dead is a widely used inflammatory number that is easily discredited. The number was used by the Wasington Post and its use criticized just the day before the BP article. You can read the fallacy of the numbers here.

The second article in today's BP release was almost disgusting in its portrayal of Jews ("It's very hard when you grow up and someone hits you ... it is very hard to give them forgiveness." --this sounds like a Jewish holocaust victim but it is the words of the Palestinian Christian). The Israeli soldiers "dictated when his family could leave the house and took his brother to jail after breaking three of his ribs." Those on the Palestinian side of the "dividing wall" are only pictured as heart-stricken believers who love Jesus, while those on the Jewish side are "adrift in spiritual emptiness." The article clearly favored the brutalized Palestinians who valiantly struggle to forgive and give Christian witness to the brutality of IDF soldiers.

Baptist Press consistently fails to recognize that Palestinian terrorists have a long history of targeting non-combatants in this conflict. The Palestinian terrorists of Gaza, in their indiscriminant use of rockets on civilian populations, are guilty of war crimes. The recent bus bombing in Jerusalem, the slaughter of the family in Itamar and the ceaseless barrage of rocket attacks for the last 8 years, are all targeted purposefully at civilians to inflict maximum casualties and terror.

Israel, on the other hand, has a moral obligation included in the code of the Israel Defense Forces, not to target non-combatants. That has played out many times over the years including in Operation Cast Lead when the IDF dropped leaflets and sent text messages warning Palestinian civilians to be aware of incoming attacks on Hamas terrorists. Those notices were required because Hamas and other terror groups purposefully use the very people they are advocating for as human shields.

There is no moral equivalency between the actions of the Israel Defense Forces and Palestinian terrorists. To create such equivalency is to make a mockery of both Christianity and Judaism.

Whether the bias of Baptist Press is out of ignorance, journalistic laziness, misplaced Christian sympathies, or out of replacement theology and disregard for God’s promises to Israel, I cannot tell. I obviously do not believe in dual covenant theology, but I do think that Southern Baptists have forgotten about the covenants that do exist between God and Israel. It would be most refreshing if, in Baptist Press, Palestinians were not continually portrayed as the good guys and Israel as the bad guys.

Trained KGB Agent Likens Attacks on Libya to Crusades

Vladimir Putin has stood against the U.N.’s decision to use military attacks to defend the citizens of Libya. The media has shown pictures of charred bodies, evoking cries of regret by world leaders. What is interesting is that one of the ‘loudest’ disagreements is by a former KGB agent, of force, not primarily led, by the U.S., against Ghaddafi’s forces, for murdering his own people. Putin decries the attacks against Ghaddafi’s forces as being like the Crusades.

But as I recall, the Crusades were against rebels who stood against the theological tyranny of the Roman Catholic church. The Roman Catholic Popery made war against and slaughtered those who chose to follow the dictums of the Holy Scripture instead of their theocracy. Much like Ghaddafi’s Crusade against those rebelling against his own government. So who’s being more like the Medieval Crusades, Mr. Putin?

What’s interesting is that in this battle you can see the lines being drawn more clearly for the battle in scripture that will end all athiesm. The country of Libya is described in Ezekiel 38 as participating in the war against Israel. In Biblical times, the present day country of Libya was known as Put (Ezek. 38:5). And its not that we see a more pronounced sympathy from Russia (Magog) alone, but we also see China and the Arab states pulling back against the strikes on Libya (never mind the Libyan citizens who pleaded for U.S. help) and fomenting anger towards the U.S.

This strike against Libya is clearly helping to draw together all the sides mentioned in Scripture, in order to carry out the attack described by the prophet so many years ago.

According to end-time events as laid out in scripture, the Ezekiel 38 battle should set the stage for the one-world ruler to enter the stage for his seven year reign. At the end of this seven year period of tribulations, the true Messiah will come in power and glory, and the Jews will finally recognize their true Deliverer, the resurrected One (Zech 12:8-10).

IDF, settlers save Arab baby - Israel News, Ynetnews

I loA 19 year IDF paramedic saved a Palestinian baby and its mother.  I like to occassionally include positive stories of Israelis helping or serving Palestinaians, because that is not covered by most media.

March Madness

March is turning out to be quite a devastating month.  Understand the Times reports that on March 6th, a Hawaii volcano erupted, or rather, erupted again...

March 6 - Hawaii volcano spews lava 65 feet high after crater collapse

A new vent has opened at one of the world's most active volcanoes, sending lava shooting up to 65 feet high, scientists at Kilauea volcano said Sunday.

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said the fissure eruption was spotted shortly after the floor at the Pu'u O'o crater collapsed around 5 p.m. Saturday. It occurred along the middle of Kilauea's east rift zone, about 2 miles west of Pu'u O'o.

...
Babb told the Hawaii Tribune-Herald that the fissure has expanded to about 535 yards long.

Another event happened on March 6th, UTT reports northerb Chile was hit by a quake.

A magnitude-6.2 earthquake has shaken a northern region of Chile, but no injuries or major damages have been reported.

These terrible tragedies are not pointing to themselves, but to a greater hope.

7 "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. 8 "But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.

Matt 24:7-8 (NASB95)

30 "And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory.
Matt 24:30 (NASB95)

9 And the LORD will be king over all the earth; in that day the LORD will be the only one, and His name the only one.
Zech 14:9 (NASB95)

All these signs are pointing beyond themselves.  They are pointing to the nearing return of the son of God.  If you do not know Him personally, have never exeperienced forgiveness of sins and spiritual rebirth, there is still time to turn from your sins and cry out to God.  All who call on the name of the Lord shall be saved (Rom. 10:13).

If you wish to know more about Jesus, start reading in the gospel of John.  (http://www.biblegateway.com/)

And I will grant salvation in Zion, And My glory for Israel.     Isaiah 46:13 (NASB95)

Trusted Evangelical Leaders Endorse The Papa Prayer by Larry Crabb!

It seems that in our day, there is much spiritual deception that is going on in sVciety and in the church, without anyone noticing. In this article, Lighthouse Trails discuss how three trusted evangelical leaders could possibly endorse a book endorsing new age practices like contemplative prayer (a.k.a. transcendental meditation).

An opportunity to convey the vision of Christ's love (OneNewsNow.com)

Dan Iverson is a church planting pastor and mission team leader in the Tokyo/Chiba area. He and his wife Carol have served in Japan since 1986 with Mission to the World, a ministry of the Presbyterian Church in America. Iverson says about 70 percent of Japanese profess no religious affiliation. "Japan is so poor spiritually," he laments. "There's suicides everyday, there's so many problems in this rich country that has no clue about the gospel -- and we just pray that God will have mercy on Japan in [the wake of] this terrible earthquake."

Christian Relief, Assistance, Support and Hope (CRASH), a network supporting Christians helping with relief work in Japan, is coordinating relief efforts with Christian missionaries there. They are currently setting up a command center in Tokyo and bases in affected areas. In addition, the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability has created a link on its homepage for givers to connect with member organizations already assisting or poised to assist in the massive relief efforts there.

"She went on to say that comprehensive sex education is -- quote - 'the only way to combat heterosexism and gender conformity,'" he reports. "She said that 'gender identity expression' and sexual orientation are a spectrum, and...that those [who are] opposed to homosexuality are stuck -- quote -- 'in a binary box that religion and family create.'" Ruse says such outrageous statements reveal that organizations like the NEA -- the largest teachers union in the country -- are way out of touch with the mainstream. "Most Americans, I think, would feel like they were completely in foreign territory if they sat in on one of these side events at the United Nations or if they heard a United Nations debate on comprehensive sex education," he shares.

God, Freedom, and “The Adjustment Bureau”

God, Freedom, and “The Adjustment Bureau”

Maybe you've seen the trailer. Dr. Russ Moore has quite an insightful take on this "new" movie.

The End Comes Like a Flood...

“The end will come like a flood…”

Matthew 24:39 39 and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Mn be.

2 Peter 2:5 5 and did not spare athe ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;

I don’t know about you, but it seems like things are happening almost too fast to be writing about.

People have said for ages that “things have gone this way for thousands of years!” Indeed they have. But now events are escalating, just as Jesus taught, “these things are the beginning of birth pangs.” In the Bible, God says that everything should be judged on the testimony of two or three witnesses.

In keeping with His characteristic faithfulness, the Lord gives us a number of categories, which can be broken to subcategories, to judge His return. These categories are

1) Return of Israel,

2) Natural Disasters/Catastrophes,

3) Wars/Globalization,

4) Religious Movements Offering a Works Salvation/False Christs

5) Proclamation of the Gospel to All Nations (Matt. 24:14)

*These five categories can be read about in Matthew chapter 24.

The purpose of this blog is not to detail all five of these categories, but to bring the enormity of signs the Lord has given to us to be able to discern His returning. In fact, in Matt. 24:33, Jesus says, “so too, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near, right at the door.”

This morning as I typed, CBN news reported the amount of earthquakes in Oklahoma have increased tenfold!

The year 2010 began with a deadly earthquake in Haiti. But before the year ended, more than 20 earthquakes struck worldwide, reaching a magnitude of 7.0 or higher -- the largest number of major earthquakes in 40 years. That trend is continuing, most recently in New Zealand.

There was a 5.4 magnitude earthquake in southwest China, near the border region of Myanmar.

In April of 2009, if some of you remember, 300 tons of Sardines, fish and 1300 penguins washed ashore dead in Chile. As of March 8th, 2011, millions of dead Sardines wash up in Redondo beach, California. Earlier in January of this past year, birds were falling dead from the sky by the hundreds and thousands everywhere from Arkansas to Sweden

In researching the sources for this, UFO Chronicles makes an attempt to connect the dead birds and fish… I mean, it all did happen at the same time. Cosmic coincidence? Not likely. But the UFO Chronicle’s story was cut short right after “What Bible Prophecy says” At the hyperlink, it is reported the article was removed due to “violation of terms.”

It seems that hostility toward Christians or even conservatives or those who hold Judeo-Christian values, is on the rise. In Germany several parents of school children were jailed, because they did not want their nine and ten-year olds being made to participate in a mandatory same-sex education class, where the children have to participate in an interactive play.

According to the attorney, many Christian parents objected to the programs' content. "They believed that under international law and [under] German law, they had every right to remove their children from those classes and instill in their children their own Christian beliefs about sexuality and love and marriage and chastity -- and for this, ten parents have been sent to jail."

In seminary, it was told us by our seminary professor, that Europe is about 15-20 years ahead of us. That was five years ago we were told that. I’m not so sure the gap is so great now. The desensitization towards immorality and vulgarity on societies has gone a long way, and with the advent of personal technological gadgets, even Christians have a hard time sitting down to read and meditate on the Bible.

Not only in Germany is this discrimination by political elites and agencies on the rise, but also in America. One of the board members of NPR was caught on tape lambasting tea party goers as racist, and saying it was some sort of fringe “evangelical Christian” group. Ummm…. Let me check, Christians view all humanity as created in the image of God, and able to find reconciliation to their Maker if they repent of their sinful ways, and confess Christ, who died for them, as their Savior and Lord. Therefore, Christians (who by the way, in America are becoming a minority of world Christians) can not be racist. And this blog is not the place to speak of all the good Christianity has brought the world. And no, Roman Catholicism is not Christianity, it is a Christian heresy that teaches salvation by works, denying the central message of the New Testament.

Which is another point of concern, the man known as “America’s Pastor,” who sold millions of copies of the Purpose Driven Life, is beginning to show his true colors. Besides being on the board of Tony Blair’s ecumenical organization, which seeks to unite the world religions, he has instituted a program at his church this year, known as the “Daniel plan,” using a Biblical name to give it legitimacy. To lead his parishioners in this plan, he has brought on board three doctors who are new age proponents.

To the shock and dismay of many Christians, a well-known, intelligent and zealous pastor, John Piper, has decided to stand by Warren for a second time. Many are defending him in this move, and trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but many others feel that this give legitimacy to Warren and all his teachings, which, according to the New Testament teachings, would make him considered anathema (Gal. 1:8-9).

Finally, one more category that I would like to mention, that is on most everyone’s radar screens right now, especially as it drives our gas and inflation rates up, is the Middle East tensions. I haven’t spoke too much of the uprising in Libya until now, but it is addressed in the Bible, playing a large role against Israel in the last days, in Ezekiel 38. Joel Rosenberg wrote a nice piece on this on his blog. But essentially, the uprisings are moving the whole world along in God’s prophetic plan, and the nearing day of Messiah.

Gas and Oil prices continue to climb in the midst of this unrest and governmental wars of the peoples revolting against their governmental leaders, kings in most cases, within the Muslim countries. But as the prices continue to rise, and everything else along with it, and the spirit of anarchy spreads and grows worldwide, this whole situation could lead us right into the one world government.

If the spirit of unrest continues to grow, and war breaks out in America, and nations are made into military states, then the U.N. would be able to seize control, and impose upon the world the Global socialist system by which they could consolidate power and money. And then the one-world leader could arise, the Maitreya, the world-teacher, that New-Agers are awaiting, the Psuedo-Christ spoken of in scripture as the man of lawlessness.

23"Thus he said: 'The fourth beast will be a fourth kingdom on the earth, which will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth and tread it down and crush it.

24'As for the (AL)ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings will arise; and another will arise after them, and he will be different from the previous ones and will subdue three kings.

25'He will (AM)speak out against the (AN)Most High and (AO)wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make (AP)alterations in times and in law; and they will be given into his hand for a (AQ)time, times, and half a time.

26'But the court will sit for judgment, and his dominion will be (AR)taken away, annihilated and destroyed forever.

27'Then the (AS)sovereignty, the dominion and the greatness of all the kingdoms under the whole heaven will be given to the people of the saints of the Highest One; His kingdom will be an (AT)everlasting kingdom, and all the dominions will (AU)serve and obey Him.'

Who runs the World?

I read a very telling article explaining alot about the actions and pronouncements of the U.N.

The United Nations, which began its life with a plurality of democratic nations, now allows for an automatic majority of nondemocratic nations. The international system dictates that Arab and Islamic nations, and their knee-jerk defenders, have a majority in almost all of its bodies. This is amply demonstrated by the disproportionate amount of time spent condemning Israel.

...  The Libyan regime, which is currently massacring its citizens in a desperate bid to remain in power, successfully sought a place on the Human Rights Council only last year. U.N. General Assembly Resolution 60/251, which created the council, stated that when electing members of the council, U.N. member states "shall take into account the contribution of candidates to the promotion and protection of human rights."

...  Nevertheless, in a secret ballot, 155 states voted in favor of granting Libya a coveted place on the council. These votes were given to a country that was known to be involved in extrajudicial and summary executions, brutal torture, and aiding and abetting international terrorism.

We have seen on this blog the fulfillment of particular scriptures coming to be, in precise detail!  So what does the Bible say about who is in charge?   Ultimately, yes that God is over all things and eventually going to reconcile them in His perfect will.  But for the meantime?  1 Jn. 5:19 gives us the answer: "the whole kosmos is under the power of the evil one."

7 I will proclaim the LORD’s decree: He said to me, “You are my son; today I have become your father.
8 Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.  9 You will break them with a rod of iron; you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”

Amen.  Come Lord Yeshua!

Eight Reasons not to be Optimistic about Egypt

Dennis Prager wrote an insightful, excellent article in Jewish World Review about eight historically true indicators of why we should not be overly optimistic concerning Egypt.  And according to Prager's assessment, this would reinforce the words of the prophet Isaiah, uttered over 2,700 yrs. ago.

4 "Moreover, I will deliver the Egyptians into the hand of a cruel master,
And a mighty king will rule over them," declares the Lord GOD of hosts [armies].
Isaiah 19:4 (NASB95)

Rob Bell - Love Wins

It seems that today, people act as if they can renege on parts of the Bible that they don't like. To deny the exclusivity of the gospel, or to say a teacher of a false religion (which doesn't even believe in a personal God), like Ghandi, or the Buddah, is in heaven, is to deny the holiness and justice/righteousness of Yahweh, and the severity of sin. The God that Bell teaches is not the God of the Bible. To deny these central claims is to declare that you are not a Christian. Jesus said the Father's word is truth (John 17:17), that He is the truth, and that no one comes to the Father except through Him (Jn 14:6). He also stated that all who follow Him must not be ashamed of His words, and that they must take up their cross, and follow Him (Mk. 8:38; Mt. 16:24).

Mr. Bell, unless you repent and change your teachings, the LORD Jesus will be ashamed of you, and not welcome you into His kingdom. Those are His words, and not mine, and I say this so you may be saved. (Mk 8:38, Lk. 9:26)

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. 2 Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned; 3 and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
2 Peter 2:1-3 (NASB95)

16 They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed. 1 But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine. Titus 1:16-2:1 (NASB95)

10 Reject a factious man after a first and second warning, 11 knowing that such a man is perverted and is sinning, being self-condemned.
Titus 3:10-11 (NASB95)
