Ps. 47- a Preview of the Return of Messiah

Yesterday I was reading in Psalm 47, and I was just totally amazed.  The Yhwh opened my eyes to see or realize things in this Psalm I don't ever recall seeing before!  This Psalm is a Psalm of rejoicing in Yhwh, the holy one of Israel, and pictures Him working deliverance, or salvation, for the people of Israel, and indeed, Himself being king over Israel, putting them in their land.

The reason Protestants misunderstand, is because they reject (in the majority) the Tanakh as the basis, or foundation of the Brit Hadaschah (New Testament, or Covenant).  and they think it is otherwise!

First off, the Hebrew scriptures start their verse numbering in the Psalms with the superscription, which English Bibles usually just take as the section heading or leave it as 'superscript.'  But this tells us in Psalm 47 that this song was "written for the music director (which, gentlemen, the choir in the temple was made up of men!)

v.1 1 All you peoples, clap your hands.b

Shout to God with a voice of rejoicing.

In Philippians, we are taught by Rabbi Paul to "rejoice in the Yhwh always, I will say it again, rejoice!" (Phil. 3:1, 4:4).

2 For Yahweh Most High is awesome,c

a great king over all the earth.

A common Biblical theme, that Yhwh Sabaoth (of hosts~ angelic armies), is king over the earth, the most high, Elyon; and, He is to be feared, something lost in most Christian circles!

3 He subdues peoples under us

and nations under our feet.

4 He chooses for us our inheritance,

the pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah

He, Yhwh Sabaoth, is the one who subdues or conquerors, Israel's enemies under them. He chose the land of Canaan, or Palestine (old Philistia~ Israel's ancient foe), to give to the children of Ja'acob, and it is their Pride!

5 God has gone up with a shout,

Yahweh with the sound of a [shofar].

6 Sing praises to God, sing praises.

Sing praises to our king, sing praises.

7 For God is king of all the earth.

Sing praises with understanding.d

8 God reigns over nations;

God sits on his holy throne.

Here we see God, Elyon Sabaoth comes, of goes up with a shout! With the sound of a trumpet (in hebrew,shofar, the ram's horn) the instrument given by the Israelis' when going into battle. This is where, beyond acknowledging that Israel's peace, military dominance, and possession of the land of ancient Canaan are from Yhwh, we see in verse five the rallying signal given by Yhwh Himself for the final battle (also known as Armageddon, when the nations of the world are gathered against Israel, synonymous with Psalm 83?).

One reason why this passage is so powerful, is that we can see here it's parallel teaching by Rabbi Paul, in the Brit Hadashah. 1 Thessalonians 4 - 

16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout of command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

This seems to parallel the eschatological (end time) teaching of the deliverance of Yhwh found in Psalm 47.  and for those with a Biblical worldview... this is bringing to completion the good news, the Euanggelion, the consummation of Yhwh's plan, the covenant He made with Abra'am, Yisac, and Ja'acob.  

The forgiveness of sins, based upon the suffering of the Messiah, the son of man, and justification because of imputation of His righteousness is based upon the teaching found in the Prophet Isaiah, chapter 53.  And to this Rabbi Paul also alludes in his letter to the diasporoa Romans in Romans 3:19-31.

 17 Then we who are alive, who remain, will be snatched away at the same time together with them in the clouds for a meeting with the Lord in the air, and thus we will be together with the Lord always.

And so with Rabbi Paul's teaching, in accordance with the basis of the Christian faith, the Tanakh, Rabbi Paul teaches that the dead in Messiah, and then those living believers, will be caught up to be forever with Messiah, as he places His people in the land of Yisrael never more to be uprooted, under His physical reign upon the earth!

There are so many other scriptures in the Tanakh and the Brit Hadashah, connecting these teachings, but for now, it will have to be another post.

Rabbi Paul also speaks about the salvation of all Israel in Romans 11, which ties in with Psalm 47.  Another hint for those who are hungry: the "fullness of the Gentiles" is explained to us what that is in Genesis 48:19 where Jacob blesses the children of Joseph.

God Will Judge Gaza?

⁴ For Gaza will be abandoned And Ashkelon a desolation; Ashdod will be driven out at noon And Ekron will be uprooted.  ⁵ Woe to the inhabitants of the seacoast, The nation of the Cherethites! The word of the LORD is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines; And I will destroy you So that there will be no inhabitant.

 

Gaza will be abandoned?  So says Zephaniah (2:4).  Zephaniah speaks of a war with the neighboring countries around Israel who are destroyed, abandoned and of some he says, “made like Sodom…”  and, “made like Gomorrah” (2:9).  Moab and the land of the Ammonites are destined to be made like the OT cities which were destroyed for their widespread practice of homosexuality; their great immorality against the I AM (Gen. 19:24).  So if that tells us anything concerning the Muslim lands around Israel, their fate, like Sodom and Gomorrah will be a rain of fire and sulfur “out of heaven,” that is, from the sky.

So how are you sure where exactly these locations you are speaking of are in the Bible?  Many of the place in scripture are described with enough identifiers to know which locations are spoken.  But aside from that, most of certainty concerning Biblical places comes from archaeological finds that confirm Biblical data.

One website which I think is an excellent tool in researching Biblical locations, which has already done much of the homework, is http://a.openbible.info/geo/.  With this site you can type in the book and chapter of the Bible you are in, and using Google earth, find the Biblical locations which are being spoken of.

Using this site for Zephaniah ch. 2, it places the locations, though some retain their ancient and Biblical names, like Gaza and Ashdod for instance.  Sodom and Gomorrah are located at the south end of the Dead Sea, while Gaza, Ashdod and Ashkelon are located on the coastline of Israel proper.  Today, these cities and territories are inhabited by Muslim peoples that are increasingly raging against Israel, as told of in Psalm 83:4-5.  Verse five tells us that in conspiring against Israel and the Jewish people, they are in fact conspiring against Yahweh Himself (v. 5)!

Psalm 83:5  ⁵ For they have conspired together with one mind; Against You they make a covenant:

When Israel first came up out of servitude in Egypt, the LORD told Israel not to provoke or take the land of Esau’s descendants (Edom) or that of the children of Lot (Moab and Ammon).  But these relatives of the Israelites grew a contempt against Israel, and the prophet Zephaniah prophesies that they are going to be punished, even destroyed for the attitude and behavior toward Israel.

Zephaniah 2:9-13, 15   ⁹ "Therefore, as I live," declares the LORD of hosts, The God of Israel, "Surely Moab will be like Sodom And the sons of Ammon like Gomorrah-- A place possessed by nettles and salt pits, And a perpetual desolation. The remnant of My people will plunder them And the remainder of My nation will inherit them."  ¹⁰ This they will have in return for their pride, because they have taunted and become arrogant against the people of the Yahweh Saboath.  ¹¹ The LORD will be terrifying to them, for He will starve all the gods of the earth; and all the coastlands of the nations will bow down to Him, everyone from his own place.  ¹² "You also, O Ethiopians, will be slain by My sword."  ¹³ And He will stretch out His hand against the north And destroy Assyria, And He will make Nineveh a desolation, Parched like the wilderness.

¹⁵ This is the exultant city Which dwells securely, Who says in her heart, "I am, and there is no one besides me." How she has become a desolation, A resting place for beasts! Everyone who passes by her will hiss And wave his hand in contempt.

Conquering the land of the Nephilim

Isn't it amazing how blinded we've been to all that the Bible speaks of! The entrance of the Israelites coming into the promised land should be called, "Conquering the land of the Nephilim!":

Joshua 11:21-22 21 Then Joshua came at that time and cut off the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab and from all the hill country of Judah and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities. 22 There were no Anakim left in the land of the sons of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod some remained. 

 Remember where Goliath was from?

Some of the inhabitants also were also Amorites, and they mentioned frequently in scripture.  Why?  The prophet Amos lets us know. 
Amos 2:9 ⁹ "Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, Though his height was like the height of cedars And he was strong as the oaks; I even destroyed his fruit above and his root below.

So see, when the Israelites were coming out of Egypt, and the LORD displayed His powers in great and awesome ways, it didn't stop with the crossing of the Red Sea.  He brought them out against some of the biggest beings in the world!  Kinda sheds new light on the saying "for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete" (Gen 15:13).

Martin Indyk, former US ambassador to Israel and adviser to US Middle East envoy George Mitchell, said Thursday that if no changes are made between now and September, the UN will declare a Palestinian state.




"Unless the US, Israel and the Palestinians have an alternative, the Palestinian plan can not be won," Indyk told Army Radio. "If there isn't anything else, then in September there will be a vote in the UN that will recognize a Palestinian state, just like the UN recognized Israel in 1948."



Indyk explained that the US does not have veto power in the UN's General Assembly. "The US may vote against it, but that won't stop it," he said.



If a Palestinian state is declared, Israel could be considered an occupier of of a UN-member country, "and that would be an uncomfortable situation for Israel," Indyk said.



"Tactically, it is very easy for the Palestinians to go to the UN - it doesn't cost them anything, and it puts pressure on Israel," Indyk told Army Radio. "As a strategy, Israel needs to think about the day after the vote."



Indyk added that, should the UN approve a Palestinian state in September, it will prove Hamas's point, that there is no reason for negotiations, and encourage violence.

This should not be suprising, as Islam is fundamentally a violent religion, even among various sects of Islam. As the UN is increasingly swayed by Muslim countries, and we increasingly compromise with them, instead of sending them the true peace-makers, more violence, oppression and attack will occur to all who oppose the goals of Islam.

There is only one Prince of Peace (Is. 9:6), and His return is quickly nearing.  No one knows the exact day of His return, but as laid out by Biblical events foretold by the Spirit, it is quickly advancing!  Maranatha!

It seems that we are on a track to recognizing a Palestinian state, whether we want to or not. In Gen. 12:3, the LORD promises Abraham that he will bless those who bless Israel, and curse those who curse Israel. Our natinal fate hangs in what the president and his administration does to Israel.

Hurricane Katrina, Andrew, the heat waves of 2003, the recent mudslides in Brazil, the volcanic explosion in Iceland that paralyzed much of Europe and cost billion in two weeks... all of these just mere chance, or is it more likely that those events happened right after steps were taken to take away Israeli sovereignty?

Israeli about to defend selves against Enemies?

Hello friends. I hope all of you are enjoying the snow as much as I am. I was sitting here reading, as the snow falls and falls and falls some more, I saw an article about the Israeli Foreign Minister declaring that the peace-for-land deal was dead.Commenting on Israel's past comprises of surrendering their land to the Palestinians:

Lieberman is not the first Israeli official to point out that every land concessions Israel has made up until now has only resulted in increased violence and hostility on the part of the Arabs. In an interview that will appear in the upcoming issue of Israel Today, former Arkansas governor and US presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said the same thing.

"Peace is in fact our heart's desire, but it is not more important than Israel's existence as the state of the Jewish people or than lasting security for its citizens. Those of us who believe in the word of God know what it teaches, and the fate of Israel. We know that ultimately they are given the land, and the Messiah will yet eventually return to reign in power as the King of all kings. It's not going to be pretty getting there, but the end result is going to be everlasting gloriousness! Amen. Come Lord Jesus.
