How to Atone For Iniquity (Pr. 16:6)

Do you ever come across a verse, and you're not sure how it works?  I've had plenty of those, and this verse is one of them:

6 By lovingkindness and truth iniquity is atoned for,
And by the fear of the Lord one keeps away from evil.
Proverbs 16 (logos.com)

When I read this, it almost seemed like it taught a works-salvation.  It left me confused!  I knew that man could not save himself.  Certainly, I couldn't!  All people have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:22).  There is no man on earth who continually does what is right and never sins (Ecc. 7:20).  Yeshua Himself said that "there is no one good, except God alone."  The Apostle Paul says, "Let God be found true, and every man a liar" (Rom. 3:4).

In seminary, I was introduced to the Hebrew phrase "lovingkindness and truth."  It's made up from the words "chesed," meaning covenant love, loyalty, faithfulness, graciousness, godly action.  The Hebrew word for "Truth" is "Emmet".  Taken together, you have a name for God.

So how is truth applied to atone for sin?  What is truth, if I might sound like Pilate?  Scripture teaches Yhwh's Law is truth (Torah, Ps. 119:142).  Yeshua said He was the truth (Jn. 14:6), and that Yah's word is truth (Jn. 17:14, 17).  Y'shua is the word of God (Jn. 1:1-3) made flesh, that took up His Sukkah (feast of Sukkot ~ tabernacles/booths, Jn. 1:14) among us, perfectly fulfilling Torah (God's righteousness), not abolishing or nullifying it (Matt. 5:17-19) to become our propitiation, effectively atoning for our sins (Rom. 3:25).

That's how Prov. 16:6 works!  Through Chesed and Emmet, Lovingkindness and Truth, iniquity is atoned for.  It is the person of Y'shua haMashiach Himself.

For Those in the Know...

Hey everyone.  Because of the birth of our new daughter, I have not been able to get to the computer as much, so rightnow I just want to do a quick catch up.

The fulfillment of Bible Prophecy continues maddeningly fast through this year as we move along.  There are many things happening, and for those in the know, we know the time is not long.  America is being devastated by storms as our administration is turning against Israel, and working to give their God-designated land to the Muslims.  Let's say it like it is.  And God promised in His word, "I will curse those who curse you, and I will bless those who bless you"  Gen. 12:3.

The Jesuit Pope has called for ecumenical unity among all the "Christian" churches.  Now what would a Jesuit Pope want with a thing like Ecumenical unity?  Hmmm???  Oh yeah!  The Jesuits were formed to exterminate the Protestant faith!  Could it be that he will succeed?  I don't think so, though I believe that many will/are/have been deceived by this False Prophet in sheeps (Lamb's) clothing.

Recently a movie or TV series came out, with the theme that the Wild Animals are taking the earth back, taking it away from the humans.  That is the teaching of Evolution.  It is the teaching of this New World Order, of the World, and is the anti-God forces of this world.  How do I know this?

In Scripture, God tells us that when a country who has been in covenant relation with Him, rebels against Him, turns against Him in hostility, then He, the Almighty Himself, will send wild animals against the inhabitants of the land.

21 “‘And if you go against me in hostility and you are not willing to listen to me, then[ae] I will add a plague onto you seven times according to your sins. 22 And I will send wild animals[af] out among you, and they shall make you childless, and they shall cut down your domestic animals, and they shall make you fewer; and your roads shall be desolate.
23 “‘And if you do not accept correction from[ag] me through these things, but[ah] you go against me in hostility, 24 then[ai] I myself[aj] will also go against you in hostility, and I myself[ak] also will strike you seven times for your sins. 25 And I will bring upon you a sword that seeks vengeance for the covenant, and you shall be gathered to your cities; and I will send a plague in your midst, and you shall be given into the hand of an enemy. (Lev. 26:21-25; biblegateway.com; bold italics mine.)

As our country continues to turn away from its Creator and God, and increasingly embraces wickedness and turns against Israel, things will continue to get worse.  In fact, the LORD said to me in regard to America:

Look, the eyes of my Lord Yahweh are on the kingdom of sin, and I will destroy it from the surface of the earth. However, I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,” declares[c] Yahweh.  (Amos 9:8).

Your time is running out America.  Your sins have almost reached their full limit.  Your days are numbered.  Tekel Tekel Mene Parsin.

If you have not done so, turn from your life of sin, and cry to God for forgiveness, and trust Yeshua the Messiah for the forgiveness of your sins, and for everlasting life in the kingdom of God.  Don't fall for the lies of the Deceiver.

Tebow Controversy Makes Way for the Gospel - US - CBN News - Christian News 24-7 - CBN.com

Tebow Controversy Makes Way for the Gospel - US - CBN News - Christian News 24-7 - CBN.com

As a committed Christian and follower of Messiah Y'shua (Jesus), who affirmed the Jewish Tanakh, what we Gentiles know as the Old Testament (John 17:17), I applaude Dr. Jeffress for standing upon Biblical teacihng taht is indeed foundational to the forming and evolution of America.  In the video, at aroiund the 8 min 20 second mark, Dr. Jeffress points out that you can't know or understand the good news without understanding the bad news.

Scripture unashamedly declares:
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

That pretty much includes everyone on earth!  We've all coveted, reviled. lusted in our hearts (which Y'shua said was as committing adultery).  The Bible tells us that all humanity is the same.  And we have the example of the Jews' rebellion after Yahweh gave them the Torah and Tanakh.  They rebelled against God's laws, just as we do.  They were punished for their sin.  But some of them repented.  Some acting in faith in the promised, coming Messiah, turned from their sin and sought forgiveness from the Almighty Maker to whom we all have to give account (Rom. 14:12).  And those who confessed their sins to the Almighty looking in faith to the one who would shed His blood to pay for the sins of the people (2 Cor. 5:21; 1 Jn. 4:10; John 10:15-18).

And that is what the Bible calls GOOD NEWS!  That we can be FREELY FORGIVEN because God so loved the world, that He sent His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16-18).  But those who have truly trusted Christ are born again (John 3:3), which means they lose their love of the world, or its approval (1 John 2:15-17).  They become, through faith, a new creation, NOT OF THIS WORLD! (Eph. 2:8-9, 2 Cor 5:17).  They drink freely of the water of Life, and are welcomed into their Father's family, and His eternal kingdom.  This world is quickly passing away, and due to the Bible prophecies that have been fulfilled and are in the process of being fulfilled, I believe we will see the return of Yeshua to establish His kingdom in the next seven to eight years.  That would put us at about 2020 A.D.

Honoring which Name?

Luke 13:34-35 34 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not have it! 35 "Behold, your house is left to you desolate; and I say to you, you will not see Me until the time comes when you say, 'BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!'"

John 5:43 43 "I have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, you will receive him.

Jesus wept over Jerusalem, the city that rejected Him, and ultimately put Him to death. The Jews will not honor the Messiah, but they will honor one who comes in his own name, to their own destruction. The man of lawlessness will come and will make a covenant of peace with the Jews for 7 years (Dan. 9:27). They will honor this man, but to their own destruction. After 3 ½ yrs., this man will declare himself to be God, and will behead all who do not bow to him. Not until Israel has gone through 3 ½ yrs of the worst persecution in history will they cry out, “Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the LORD.”

When Does God's Love End and His Hatred Start?

An excellent question was presented to me. When in a sinner’s life does God’s love for that sinner end and His hate begin? This is a difficult question, but I think part of understanding it is understanding the nature of man and of God.

First, in beginning this statement, we need to understand man’s condition. Man is fallen from the sinless state in which God created him (Gen 3:6,7). We are born with a sinful nature. “The heart [of man] is wicked and deceitful above all things. Who can understand it?” (Jer. 17:9). Romans 3 tells us: 10As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one; 11there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God.

Romans 5:10

For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

Colossians 1:21

Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior.

There is nothing good in mankind to seek God or want God (Rom 3:10-11). “Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God” (Rom. 8:8). Eph 2:1 says: “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins.”

18 For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, 19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things. Phillipians 3:18,19

So the Bible describes man as hostile, an enemy of God, spiritually dead in his sins (Gen 2:17). There is no way we can please God. Isaiah tells us that even our good deeds are like polluted garments to God (Is. 64:6). Our nature is so thoroughly pervaded with sin, there is nothing in us that can want God (Rom 3:10-11). Jesus said, “No one can come to me unless the Father draws him” Jn 6:44. We are dead in our sins, and all of us, apart from God’s grace, are running headlong straight to hell. And if not for His Amazing Grace, that’s where we all should end up. The only thing we can earn from God in our sinful nature is condemnation. We are all guilty and deserving of hell.

Of God, we know that He is love (1 Jn 4:7-10). That is His nature. God is love. God created man upon the earth, and provided a Savior to redeem him from his sins. Scripture says: For God so loved the world, that He sent his only begotten Son... (Jn 3:16).

That is a characteristic of God's being. God IS love. But yes, because He is love, He MUST punish sin and sinners go to the place of punishment God created for Satan and his fellow fallen-angels (Mt 25:41). Part of God being love, is that God is Just or Righteous. He must punish evil.

In the Bible, a person’s name was very important, and had to do with Characteristics of that person. So when God revealed His name to Moses, it was very significant. God was revealing to sinful man WHO HE IS. He said: Exodus 34:6-7 Then the LORD passed by in front of him and proclaimed, "The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and bounding in lovingkindness and truth; 7 who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations."

We know that all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God (Rom 3:23). So here's the dilemma: Why doesn't God send us all to hell? For He is perfectly righteous and just and there is no sin in Him (1 Jn 5:1). Because He is Love (eternally), as a manifestation of His love, He sent the Savior at the right time to die for the sins of those whom God would redeem.

Pastor John Piper (www.desiringgod.org) gave an illustration that I find very helpful. It's like humanity is in a mass running full speed away from God. But God has mercy, and He reaches out and saves some. So I don’t think that it’s so much of an issue about when His love starts or ends. All people on earth experience the love and kindness of God.

Matthew 5:44-45 44 "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

All people on earth experience the goodness and general grace of God. “Every good thing given, and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like the shifting shadows.” Jas. 1:17.

In Romans we read: Romans 9:13 13 Just as it is written, "JACOB I LOVED, BUT ESAU I HATED." One thing we need to keep in mind is, God does not hate as humans hate. Jesus said that if we hate our brother in our heart, we are guilty of murder. The lives of Jacob and Esau are very instructive. What is the difference between Jacob and Esau. Scripture says God hated Esau. His purpose of election was upon Jacob. But what did that look like in their lives. God fulfilled all his promises to and blessed Esau, so that at their reunion after their long estrangement, Esau needed nothing of Jacobs possessions. God had blessed Esau with riches and earthly prosperity (Gen 33:9). But Jacob had been marked with the discipline of God, for his holiness (Heb. 12:10). He walked up to his brother with a limp (Gen 32:25,31). That is the difference between those the LORD redeems and those he doesn’t; those whom He adopts as His children, he disciplines for their holiness.

Hebrews 12:5-6 and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, "MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM; 6 FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES."
